How did you find out about the game?

Post by josephm »

Plarfhitman works in the same department as I do and let me know about it. Checked it out with a fyros char and loved it last two weeks of beta.

I went looking for something else to play when it was announced Earth and Beyond was heading for the sunset. I looked for quite a while and tried out at least 5 or 6. This was the only one that seemed to have a little something extra. An eight year story arc really pulled me in, along with the stanza building and the choice to NOT be a tank if I wanted. Plus it didn't have a single elf or orc in it. In RL I prefer hard science SF and don't care much for fantasy.

In Earth and Beyond I was the guild shield builder. Even though I played for only a year and a half I had all of the shields from level one through seven - which was pretty good considering there were only nine levels.

In Ryzom I could build armor and jewelry and more, OH MY! :D

edit: I've been playing since the first open beta in May.

yes me mwahahahahha ummmmm I cant remeber where I learned about it. Was way way back when the game was just rumors and I was a tired MMO player looking for somthing interesting. I do remember learning about the open beta from Penny Arcade add and rushing off to see if the game was as grand as the storys tolled to me about it.

After my characters ability in City of Heroes that I had been suffering to get got nerfed (was a fire controller pushing to get Fire Imps) I said goodbye and started looking on the net for something different. Disappointed and shocked that Dragon Empires was discontinued and not willing to wait the months before dark and light, wish or mournings came out I decided on trying the free trial of the Saga of Ryzom.

I had gotten my Mom into EQ but there was something missing in it for her. She found Ryzom beta on the internet. This was shortly before EQ took it's dive but was still thriving somewhat. She had to drag me kicking and screaming, but I came and I'm still here.

Player vs Player. Played EQ, but lost interest, what with the limited crafting ability, and all the content for the high end. Played City of Heroes, but the same thing. Lost interest.

Last spring, about February or March, found this beta for something call Saga of Ryzom. Played it, found it interesting, computer died. Friend got it for me in November, and have been playing it ever since. Same character, too.

i saw an add on penny-arcade about it but i couldn't play it due to lack of a box to play it on. got a new laptop and got the beta, albiet later than wanted cause this was a cool mmorpg game i wanted to try because of the relative classesness of it

told a friend or two about it, one is at least playing it now, i played by proxy through him for a few months

Saw it in a feature (plus cover disc) in PCGamer. Had never played a MMORPG before. I'd just got broadband too so I decided to give it a try. Was bit scary at first but once I got into how the game worked I was hooked.

This was way back in May, played in first OB, all the open weekends, FBT and Final Beta.

I got really excited about Dragon Empires too, and was going to pass up this game for it. Once DE got cancelled, I went on mmorpg.com and looked at the 'coming soon' category and saw that Ryzom was coming out in a few weeks. At first, I read about it and wasn't interested, but the more I read, the more I became fascinated. That and I definitely wasn't interested in EQII or WoW, and wasn't waiting months for Middle-Earth Online or Dark and Light.

Figures that I found out about Ryzom not 3 or 4 days after the open beta finished. Went out and bought a copy as soon as it was available and haven't stopped playing since. :)
