Does anyone actually care about the story or roleplaying?
Does anyone actually care about the story or roleplaying?
I ask this question because with each passing day I get more and more frustrated because it seems no one cares. I try to roleplay and I either get called lame or people treat me like I am from another world. I try to talk to people about the story and no one wants to. It seems that all everyone wants to do is level. Aren't there any other players that want to roleplay and try to make the game mean something? Or should I just give up and move on to another game where some players actually seem to care.

Sounds to me like your depressed at work or something bro.
All games are this way, some people roleplay others do not, you can't have your cake and eat it to, unfortunately.
Were currently all roleplaying technically, with prepairing for war.
Get involved into the storyline deeper with helping the preperations, that will keep your mind busy.

For those who know about today, I have a supprise for you tomorrow.

i tried roleplaying in ac1, first guild i was in was total rp. it wasnt for me, im too busy playing the game
the backstory- knowing the general idea is good for me, i dont want to sit and talk for hours about the technical details of the past
the storyline in the present, yes im quite interested and trying to actively participate in the current unfolding of the saga

Personally Raynes, they have not really added any new content from what i can see. The lore they put in just reinforces what we already knew from the previous Encyclopedia. Our fame with tribes gives us no new information about any of the goals of either the Kami or Karavan.
What i did find weird was that they put the Tryker and Matis on one alliance and the Fyros and Zorai on the other, yet they tell us to choose our paths on our own.
These are my main concerns:
Both tribes see the goo as a destabilizing factor and wish to either eradicate it or protect its impact on the planet.
Both have shown their worth on preventing the Kitin from eradicating all homin.
The implementation of the encylopedia may help us on this last question, only the next patch will tell. (The Karvan dont want us to know about our past, which bothers me a lot.)
With Fame meaning little at this point and little reward or information from helping either side, roleplaying for me means helping only my fellow Tryker. They are all i know i can trust.

The New Beginning wrote:Are they capable of putting their differences aside and wipe out the Goo for good? Can they defeat the Kitins? Can they unearth the lost secrets of the great homin empires of the past and discover the reasons that might explain the differences between the Kamis and the Karavan?

Re: Does anyone actually care about the story or roleplaying?
Well, most players lack the imagination and vocabulary to roleplay, or do so in a manner that is not laughable. They need the story handed to them on a platter, a la single player game where u do something and are rewarded with a cool cinematic and some pieces of the story.
The thing is, this is not some tabletop DnD where all the makers of the game are resposible for is providing u with the board and action figures, then u have to be creative and roleplay till you drop. In ryzom,Players are paying monthly so the devs provide us with the story, tiny fragments of it albeit, but a story nontheless. Thing is, roleplaying should be an option ,not mandatory as it is in ryzom.

Am i supposed to write something witty here ?
Re: Does anyone actually care about the story or roleplaying?
Raynes, I roleplay occasionally when I am in the mood, for certain situation, I think. Not true rp'ing. I find 100% rp'ing too hard and strict to keep in character. Especially when you want to discuss techinical details/bugs/casual chats/etc. I guess I never really true roleplay to understand the attraction and how it works.
Wouldn't doing the npc missions to supply the troops as people are doing now, or fighting the kitins at dyron and screaming warcry of cusses and death threats at the mobs (which is always fun), or scouting the area to find more information about the army and the invasion, be roleplaying?
I think I need a clearer explanation on what exactly your version of rp is.

How many players play a particular race or follow a particular group and say they are proud to be that? How many Zorai or Fryos play doing things for the glory of their nation or their devotion to the Kami or Karavan? That is what I am taking about. It seems that to most players who or what they are playing means nothing.
I guess I should be used to it by now. In Earth and Beyond people didn't care if you were a Progen or a Jenquai, just if you had big guns. In City of Heroes no one cared if you took down some villians or took down an archvillian, it just mattered what powers you could get. In this game it doesn't matter if you are a Matis or Zorai, just as long as you can get good prices or keep spawn points.

I've lived in a couple of different countries for a short time. In most cases, the average populace is about the same wherever you go. I mean, we're all people driven by the same basic needs in life.
I've made good friends from different countries and we're all proud of our heritige and history. While we certainly partake in some good-natured teasing about our different backgrounds, we don't look down on each other for it.
I see the game in much the same way. As a Tryker, I've been the brunt of some short jokes (and made a few myself). I might crack a joke to a Zorai friend about their allegance to that cute Kami teddy bear standing outside of Fairhaven.
But at the end of the day, we're all Homins struggling for survival on atys against the kitins and other wildlife. Yes, I'm proud to be a Tryker and love to help advance our cause, however, it's our common struggle against the Kitin that I see as more important. I don't really care if a Zorai player shares the same faith as me (Kami or Karavan).

Re: Does anyone actually care about the story or roleplaying?
If you ever run into me, I'll give rollplaying my best shot... promise. I think it's fun, but it's not what makes the game for me. I like learning more history and I can't wait to figure out encyclopedia stuff though. I'm just not good enough yet to do a lot of crazy missions. I'll get there eventually.

Re: Does anyone actually care about the story or roleplaying?
Raynes you should start a role playing guild. Or does it break the role playing experience if 100% of the player base isn't on it?
