is there any use for staffs

I can craft staffs, took the option more out of curiosity than actual sense and now what I want to know is there any use for them whatsoever (other than looking like your carrying a baseball bat to confuse people).

they do bad damage.
you can put spells in them but you can with most other things and most fights last only the 2-3 spells you can put in your sword/amps etc
the GMs got some cool looking staffs but I'm guessing thats to make them more visible.

and lastly is there only the single handed staff or can you upgrade to 2 handed later (they might be crap but I like the look of the big staffs)

1 handed only, use dzao and oath to make gives a hard staff that has high adversary dodge, combined with shield makes an ok weapon.
Other than that u can level 1h without big shell
