System self reboot during patching

After running desperately around town yesterday trying to find a copy of Ryzom (and being informed by an EB clerk at least, that they would not have the game until October 1st - I live in Denmark by the way) I managed to find a Danish webshop that had the game and I have just finished installing and patching and now getting ready to my first session :) .

One thing had me worried though during the patching process. About half way through the 68 files that are downloaded, my computer suddenly rebooted itself without warning. When I restarted the client/patcher I was even shown a window asking which of a number of reasons for the client crash I had experienced - self reboot was one of them.

Since everything seems fine now (and I have my fingers crossed that I will not see any spontanious reboots during gameplay) I guess I could just ignore this, but something as serious as a reboot gets me pretty worried - I do not think I have had a single self reboot in over a year of heavy computer use.

I am 99,9 % sure that this was not a spyware induced reboot, but related to the client, so I just want to hear if anyone else has experienced the same thing? Since reboot was actually presented as a possible crash option by the client, I guess it may not be totally unheard of for this game?

Well, I am off to play - hopefully without further incidents :) . The game sure looks intriguing.

sorry didnt see this post sooner, but i had the same problem. Panic'd a little but been playing now for a week and have had no similar problems yet.

I did however have quite a few problems getting my nortons firewall to allow me to connect; Ive never had as much hassle b4 yet have been a hardcore gamer and nortons user for years. This made me wonder if the nortons security suite had affected the patch downloads-i did have nortons antivirus disabled as i was installing but....who knows?

Once that was sorted no probs at all after a week, except for losing sound following tonights server downtime. Im hoping that was a server issue (my other post is here : http://ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1881

Hope youre as lucky miths, enjoy the game

Well, the problem never reappeared, and with all the hours I have put into this game over the last week, it is certainly not because there has not been enough time for my system to suffer from another (apparantly) Ryzom induced reboot :) .

I have had four or five client crashes (and as I said, I have put in quite a lot of hours) - one of them pretty nasty, requiring me to hit the powerbutton, since I could not even kill the game from the tasklist, nor bring the tasklist up for that matter. Other than that - and the lag everyone's been getting today - it has been pretty much smooth sailing. And a whole lot of fun.

No Norton applications installed on my system, so that was not the source of my problem.

The posts here in the technical forum seems to move a bit slow, but I think that is a good indication of the relatively low number of problems people are having. Better than having a new cry for help every ten minutes as is not uncommon after a release :) .

cool. i think youre right, there doesnt appear to be too many issues. I think the devs should be applauded for the effort so far. As long as yesterdays (Fri)lag issues weren't down to loads of more people signing up now who couldnt get the game instore last week....
