What should be the role of mounts in game?

I just want to open this thought up for discussion. As far as I am concerned, there simply is NO wrong answer on this one, it is strictly a "what is YOUR opinion on this" topic.

PLEASE respect other people ideas and don't be threatened by them either. Just because someone else thinks differently does NOT invalidate YOUR thoughts.

OK disclaimer out of the way.

I always think of mounts as a faster, safer way to get around in any game. I see them as a possible way to get to see the world, and to explore, yet limit how I can interact with that world (can't harvest since you are both mounted and running at full speed, but CAN see the world).

I think that there SHOULD be some down side (feeding them), but the majority of them should be a plus.

I also think that there should be different "models" of them, maybe even different colors, and the higher priced models should be MUCH faster than speed up, as well as having higher regen speed and MUCH higher HP.

Ok, that is MY opinion...what is yours.

(bear in mind that the devs DO listen...so...even if you are shy...please do speak up)

While mount is an interesting addition to the game, I would much rather have all the teleporters working.

You seem to forget that the broken teleports are a 'feature' of the game. However I too would appreciate if the devs would concentrate on fixing the non-working items rather than introducing snafus to things already working.

Check it out... it's the latest model mek. Leather saddle, golden hoofs, cool 10 mekspeed legs. I used to use cheap grain, but now only fine grain gets into this baby! Set me back a cool mil too! I'll be the envy of Zora with this baby!

that's already done, you have to give them food regularly(by putting it in their inventory), only bug that still exists is the black&white food bug, they get hungry and just take the whole batch, instead of only what they need

My opinion on them is that their main use it to be able to travel faster. They can't be brought through the teleports (or whatever they are called to get to PR on to another land) though because this would make the travel too easily I think being able to move faster then all the aggros and stuff. I also agree that you wouldn't be able to do anything from them (harvest, fight, craft).


Two types of mounts .:. speed/endurance. You can buy different mounts depending on what you are looking for. 1 could be great at sprinting (like the quarter horse if u want to relate it to real life ;P) and the other at running distance (like the Thoroughbred). The 'quarter horse' would be good for getting away from aggros if you want to use it for that purpose because it could move real quickly for a defined distance (you dont have to sprint w/ it at the beginning if you dont want, it would not run as fast as the 'thoroughbred' though). Though great at sprinting, it runs out of energy quickly and slows down a lot (almost like yourself running now). The 'thoroughbred' would not be able to run really fast in the short term, but over a greater distance it would be a LOT faster then the 'quarter horse' because of his endurance.


Various costs .:. The two types mentioned above would cost the same. HP and regen would affect the cost. Other then that, im not sure.

Differences in appearance .:. When you first buy them they all look identical. You can then take it to a place next to the stable that is like the haircut place (does this even work? i havent checked :P ) where u can buy new apparel. It wouldn't cost that much as it would just be another way to liven the game up and gives no advantage so if its too much then it wouldn't be used by as many ppl ;P

Last .:. I like the idea of having to feed it. How much this costs and all im not sure about but I think this would be good if balanced right.

what? O_o how can it already be done if thye havent been added? Sorry, still getting everything w/ this game figured out :P

I posted this since they are now testing out the mounts on ATS. I will post a "nice" review, and simply state that they are not a finished product and still need alot of work. For instance, if the thought of Hopping on and out running CURRENT agro came to mind, well as they stand now....not happening. Mounting takes a while, and their speed is too slow for this.

I will say I am not impressed with them as they are currently.

i was talking about the ats, sorry that i didn't make that clear =)

a friend of mine was able to outrun kincher and varynxes with the mount
