800x600

Yes it can be done just open your client.cfg and your client_default.cfg and put 800 instead 1024 or whatever you use and 600 instead 768 or any other analysis you use, and the game will run sweet!

Log in to the game and wait till the ACCEPT REFUSE option (of EULA) then you alter those files or put exact duplicate copies of them inside the ryzom game folder or else they will be overwritten while client checks your game files while you joining the server, bare in mind that you have to change the ingame font types to small before you do all this if you dont want them to be too big in the 800x600 resolytions.

I have to say that this game runs VERY WELL in 800x600 compared to many other games that dont support 800x600 resolution by default. Plus framerates are far better and of course it supports all settings to max with no real problems and loss of frames.

Upside: it runs very well for low spec systems.

Downside: you will have to do this every time you want to start the Ryzom client, but its really worthing it. I urge the Devs at sometime that they will consider putting an "official" 800x600 option in the config client.

Enjoy!

i am sure if they wanted people to run it 800by600, they would have put it up as an option. your crap is way too big and then you cant see the viewing area as much as you would 1024x780 or what i use... 1280 by 1024...

but whatever floats your boat.

Actually no, I had this the first time I launched it in 800x600 and the second time readjusted at 800x600, it seems the textures and entities as long with icons can be scaled down pretty nicely at this resolution and from my expirience it runs almost exactly as good as 1024x768. Indeed I can hardly see the difference. So it seems 800x600 was an option too, but somehow they decided not to have it displayed it in options. Now with the Ryzom resources gobling up system RAM in this game has (almost 800 megs need of ram) to add this as an option in the client in the future too would be really helpfull. I dont see why the designing team wouldnt want to make this game available to more ppl with lower specs. Been running HL2 in 1024 768 and the performance I get is similar as in Ryzom at 800x600. I bet its yet difficult for Nervax to reach the experience of Valve software or similar, but they can always try. Lots of people have to run the same client at laptops or low specs PCs since we cant be at our home with our high end machine all the time. This can help servers be less empty and prolong game time for many of ppl. I have experiences from another popular MMOG, EVE online, where it had a client you could easily minimize and run multiple tasks without eating up the whole of your memory, and you could even run 2 or three clients at same time from same low spec PC, this made it easy for a lot of people to be in the game all the time...and well..more accounts to be sold.. Thats what we need at Ryzom. Now who can run even a second Ryzom client at same PC even if it is high end unless it has at least 2 gig ram? Let alone 3 at same time. You see my point?

And there is not a point in how they wanted the game to run really, the only point they should have is getting more ppl in. Already they reduced its price to 50% to be able to draw more ppl, and that is not a good sign and probably means that those servers arent exactly alive and kicking.. :)

There are changes that you can make to the client to scroll the camera WAY further back. I will have to look it up, but the line is something like Max camera=50.0000000000 or something like that. I forget the EXACT coding of it.

This allows you to scroll back to the point that in other rezzes you are about a tad shorter than a half inch tall. This is useful in lower resolutions AND when traveling and you need to SEE all the agro around you.

(OH and FYI, I asked if this was ok, and a GM told me YES).

*I'm sorry we cannont allow posts on how to change the client. This is in violation of the EULA and any other posts like these will be deleted as well

very true I run at 800x600 and have duel monitors because I do other work while I play and I dont know if you have ever tried playing Ryzom and using photoshop at the same time but you can say bye bye to your RAM and I have 1gig. Scaled down it looks the same I dont seem to loose anything.

I'm afraid the GM you spoke to was mistaken. This is indeed NOT ok. It is in violation of the EULA and as such is not condoned.

You put a text config file in the program folder and you expected people to just leave it alone? Goof balls. :D

Heh, my post said less about it than lyrahs. I was also told this is okay by a GM awhile back.. forget which one though. Maybe you should let them in on the EULA. :P
