Well, what can I say.. Ive played that game for roughly 19 months total, last 3 months I only logged in once in a while to check out patches..
In the end the "real world economy" ruined the game for me. All got more expensive and stuff dont have perm decay wich means inflation. Also, new and better stuff dropped making old gear and their stats less attractive, meaning you constantly need to trade in the market not to loose your over all worth on your avatar.. The crazy sale on Treasure Island along with the so called "land grab" acts that has taken place recently (and won only by the richest and most powerfull societys) are only signs that comfort me in my descission to distance me from that personal economy ruining game
Im glad I left it behind as the game experience depended on your wallet unless you like doing crappy boring stuff aaal week to have fun one day on the weekend. In Ryzom and pay per month games the experiences are unlimited and your personal IRL callendar is what descides your limitations. After 16 months of content and game experience dry out I decided to get me full out action in a monthly pay to play game, wich also turned out faaaar easier on my wallet...

A game that encourages real world spending isn't going to last long in my opinion. It requires the player to have a fair amount of money at their disposal if they wasnt to keep up. Not a good way to go with a game if you ask me.

Agreed Kostika
The Second Life economy is interesting - allowing people to buy land, and sell products they make for real cash is one thing - allowing something to be sold for $26500 is totally off the scale!

There are a few ways of playing without putting any money in.
Like sweating animals (lol) sweat is a material used to perform Mindforce (Magic). Sweating is free and all beginners can do it. But it is boring and you need a LOT of time to sweat together enough for a weapon and some ammo that will last more than a days play.
Another way is to try your luck at an oil rig that "drops" oil roughly once every 30 minutes on a random intervall. However this is also a PvP zone AND has deadly mobs....
Re-selling has always ben popular.. buy cheap, sell expensive...
A combo of all can lead to some starting capital.. but requires much work.
And also.. the real economy seems to be one of the things that actually have kept this game alive as it for a long time (3 years or whatever it is) was behind other games in fancy looks and effects. What has always ben unique was the money.

I Have played Eve online and that is riddled with ebay sellers & buyers even online peeps talk about it some times!.
Some players are make-ing a lot of cash of the back of other players in corps(guilds) ripping others off.
then you have guys whohave just started out and have brought a char with battleships,i asked ccp"who run eve-online" and all i got was "if we catch a player doing this we would take action".
But i said it was running wild in eve-online...but i think some are happy as long as the money is coming in for the game that they have brought out!..Lets hope Ryzom will not be killed off by the ebay bug..Who wants to work haed day after day getting lvls to find out the guy next to you has got his lvl 150 char from Ebay.....
KEEP IT OUT!....Ryzom

You have to be daft to pay for a 150 level character in SoR, when you can get one for free on the test server
