Irritated already

This is to the folx in game who became irritated with me today.
Some people tried to help me through my frustration with this game.
For those who became irritated with my irritation, please either
read this and understand my pain or agree to disagree.
Personally I'm not irritated with any of the players, I'm irritated with the game,
with the documentation.
My goal since I started has been to craft myself up some armor that will be better than what I started with. So far I've been totally unable to do so and that is frustrating.
Finally today someone explained to me how I could find high quality lining materials. The key was that different materials are more likely to pop up when prospecting near certain landscapes. Ok, I didn't see that anywhere in the manual but that is critical information! So now I can get materials that I need reasonably well. But this is a long time in coming. My frustration level is already skyrocketing.
Now I get a good batch of my Choice qaulity 20 materials and head back to craft. I put them together and craft up my stuff. What do I find? Even with the best materials I could manage, it still poped up with armor that is much worse than anything I started with.
Argh! I hate this game I hate this game I hate this game!
So I ask around.
"Well didn't you know you have to take off your armor?"
What? I check my armor info... I dont' see any stat on my armor that would be effecting my craft. I don't get it.
"Well, it is on the forums."
What? I thought I read the forums on the first day and there was like only 6 message on it. So I go look again. I dont' see anything about this removing armor concept.
Frustration Frustration Frustration
Anyway. I'm going to quit for a while. Maybe to go read these "beta boards" i was given a link to.

learning this game can b a headache sometime I can see there are alot of complex part to this game that can scare early player. In time you will learn what makes what and the how to. Of course there not going to tell you how to make better armor as that is up to you as a crafter to learn. With crafting there are alot of combination and things to take into consideration just b pateint young grasshopper and play around with things and it will come.

Such is the frustrations of starting with a new game.
There is so much to learn and you hate to constantly ask for answers.
I was frustrated the other night when I had some Mission stuff to give to an NPC. For 5 minutes I tried to give him the stuff without any success.
Then I realised I was trying to give the stuff to his brother............. The names were almost identical.
Just hang in there. I know I need a chunk of help from others that played the Beta and there is stuff in game now that probally wasn't even in the Beta so no one knows the answer.
Ahhhh, the joys of being there early

Since you start out with quality 1(!) this is impossible.
But true is that
a) the maximum quality you can craft is the one you have trained - and these skills are *unlocked* when you reach a certain lvl. So no Q20 crafting before we reach craft lvl 10 afair.
b) even if you can craft Q20 you will still get the lowest Q of any mat you use. Now this can suck when you throw a bunch of 7 mats from Q15-20 in and one lousy Q8 spoils it instead of the system doing a little math and give you something like Q14 at least.
On the other hand....the reason I jumped in on this is that I was SICK of EQ where you could read every recipe and quest within one week of release. I did my homework on the few guides online but I surely blew about 100 skill points into useless or neglectable stuff since yesterday and honestly - WHO CARES? This is supposed to excite me, intrigue me and CHALLENGE me......and thats what it does. The best 50 bucks I did spend this year
Take up the challenge and enjoy is the best advice I can give!

But Aye37... I was already craft lvl 17 with armor level 2 skill. And still I couldn't make items that had betterl stats (quality yes, but not stats) than the noob gear.
So my armor i was wearing Q10 had better stats than the Q20 stuff I was making.
This is a bit frustrating, not in and of itself, but also given that I've been playing non stop almost, and when I started there were only 3 of us Trykers online. Thats excellent.
I've listened to people state that they were at levels that were double mine. What am I doing wrong? That surely can't be possible. Hmm. "Well I'll just redouble my efforts." I say to myself.
I've listened to people advertising armor that I haven't been able to come close to. What? How is that possible? "Well, maybe I need to be more careful about the stats.. not all choice -blah-blah- are the same". So I spend hours searching out the absolute best materials, not just choice but choice of the choice.
But all that effort and nothing works! At the end of my hours of effort I get? a big pile of nothing.
As it turns out both events which occured that seemed impossible to me, were really likely caused by the same issue. "You've got to remove your armor before you craft decently". Clearly you can level faster if they have better gear which explains how someone could get twice as many levels as I in the same amount of time. (Of course people will level differently, but 2x, comeon)
And all because of something that as far as I can tell, there is no in-game mechinic for which you could learn it. And I'm still reading things on the boards but haven't come across any mention of it.
Don't get me wrong now.. I intentionally don't read spoilers because I'd rather learn the systems in the way they were intended. But for this feature, I see no way to learn it in the game. There's no indication that armor has any effect on your craft. No message stating "due to high encumberance, your crafted object quality has been reduced' Or stat on the armor "craft penalty: light" or anything of the sort.
I guess someone figured out how to do this in beta and told everyone. How they figured it out is beyond me, and I'm sure I would NEVER have gotten it. Thus, i guess i'll try to scour the boards.
Can't wait to find out whats next.. [Yeah... that was sarcasm]
Help me out by pointing me at the resources I need, that I'd take gladly.

Unless they changed something, radically, store bought materials give you better stats than the nube armor, what exactly are you looking at that is not better?
I haven't been able to play much yet but even the light armors where far better than the refugee armor. and the heavier armours are way better than that, but have malus.

Sounds like somebody was feeding you bad info in-game Takhion.
while the vast majority of people and beta testers have been rather helpful, you always find some people who are jerks or just poorly knowledgable. Sounds like you can get good help here though.

I made my toon a crafter up to 20 tonight and have no indication whatsoever that degrading got worse although my armor got progressesively better.
The penalties afaik make your actions more expensive in sap, focus or stamina cost, reduce range for prospection, spells and missile weapons but have nothing to du with failures.
The only ones really suffering from armor are prospectors (because a harvesting spot only lasts for a short time) and offensive mages.

The penalty for wearing armor was in the manual (in the 'equipping items' section), but unfortunately it didn't specifically mention crafting actions as being affected. Equipping weapons and armor will incur a penalty on any actions that you do, including crafting actions. You can check the penalty given by individual items by right-clicking on them in your inventory and choosing Info, and you can check your total current penalty in your Identity window (press P).
Light armor offers a little protection, without the penalties, so you don't actually need to run around naked to be a fully effective crafter.

Perhaps if the manual had something in the Crafting section, that callled out that particular issue re: armor causing failures...really, I usually don't feel that I have to give a game manual lawyer-level scrutiny to make sure that I'm not totally screwing up game mechanics for myself.
At best, it's unclear. All the info is there, but not well presented in my opinion.
