Solved - Error: Can't connect (error code 1)

So, I ran ryzom recover. I log in. It gives me a load of checksums and runs through them. Then it gives me the relaunch. I relaunch and an error message comes up with 'lost connection to the server during patching' and now when I type in my login, it gives me the can't connect error.
I tried Klient, and same thing.
<Klients> Try to connect on (chat.ryzom.com:6004)
<Klients> Connection refused.
Any ideas?
I have turned off my firewall, no anti-virus software. If you can read this then I can still connect to the internet.

EDIT: so, turning off and removing ZoneAlarm through msconfig are not enough. Persistant little brat stays in the system. I fired up zonealarm, gave the client permission to wander the net and I'm back online.
And I may have solved all of my other connection issues in another twist (not related to ZoneAlarm). I'll test it over the next couple days and see.
