With 1hnd, you will do less more damage, but will hit faster and will not gain much damage yourself. Stamina usage is high.
With 2hnd you will do more damage, but less hits while you are gaining much damage yourself. Low stamina usage.
So if you compare this, it seems to be well balanced.
1hnd will be more usefull in single fight, because in team-fight there is no need for much protection. So 2hnd will be good for team-fight, to do damage as high as possibile.
