The Endless Qustion On Info Then Changes

Change is always good in gameplay as long as the ground rules don’t change cus what always ticks people off some how.

I have played Ryzom from same day 1Open Beta opened.
And have seen my share of change in the game, most have be for the best and some where so wild i can’t grasp what they really wanted to achieve.

As some of you know Ryzom was supposed released in June this year.
Did the investors demanded a change of game play after then Nevrax did not make it?
Did they have to cut down on the number of programmers back then?
For me it seem they have lost some good programmer some time back and sit back with a load of designers.

Mostly then a new patch comes out now its untested and very unbalanced and the “release notes don’t show all that’s been done, and is shows now they have some big problems doing the proper changes. Patch 1 is a good example on what, boy I did lose some old friends there…. Even if they tried to make thing better with 3 panic patches that did not fix any thing what the mass was complaining about.

Everywhere in the game you do seen unfinished things what have been like this for 6 mnts ,they are still trying to balance the exp gaining on players, mob lvls
For me “we fixed/tune/tweaked some issues with combat/spell/dodge/harvest/crafting” doesn’t really cut it for me, sins this seldom the case.

Yes it a game and some younger players don’t really care what’s done to the game as long they can play with their friends and live goes on.
But for some like me, I think changes are good in the content of the game it make things interesting.
Changes in the ground rules of a mmorpg are some times signs of poor programming or lack of ground rules.
Any one what have played a game don’t like then on of the players are cheating or suddenly change the rules of the game to his benefit.

I think if we could have a little more info on what really going on inside the game we could maybe understand why this highly unplanned changes comes one after another.
To give you some idea of that i mean look at this link.
***Edited By Administration: Off-Topic.***
As I understand, only 4-5 persons are working on this game, and look at all the change in code they done.
And they even had time to be polite to write down why they did it.

This is the one thing I miss most in Ryzom. The Politeness to inform us about the changes done in the game and may update the Manual after what is done.
I think we could understand if they told us “sorry guys those mounts is incredibly hard to code cus the ai of them is just eating our servers away, but we have some ide’s on how we going to remake the mount to make them work better.”
Or “ do to our main code of the mob in the game mounts it to hard to implant without rebuild the hole code so we are sorry mount can’t be implanted.”

It basically comes down to the lack of info don’t it?
Most patches are for good, and some are just good the company that makes the game.
They need their money this we all understand.
We need as much info we can get, hope thet can understand that.
Take this post as you like.

Agree for the most part, you make some valid points.

Why did they delete the link ?

Its against forum rules to link to another game's website. He could have just said the name of the game, but no...

still some shiffers after patch one.
im amazed.

patch 2 comes and they already start or maybe you never stopped.

just a question what do you consider a young player? someone who is new to this type of game or someone who is older in age?

and maybe you can take an example of those "younger players" their way of aproaching it seems more possitive and they seem to get more out of it and waste less energy.
anyway im sure ill get shot down now.
those who will die soon greet you

(this is not a flame just an opinion so dont be offended)

I agree, the lack of information on nevrax's part is really annoying as we have to determine what changes patches actually had, the patch notes are just tiny vague scraps of info. Well they did tell us that patch 2 is going live in multiple installments, of course no details of what exactly the patch will bring about, but hey, as long as its there..

Things change, even the allmighty Blizzard left out a Major part of WoW out "battlegrounds" which was, according to the manual, already ingame. Heck the manual said that there will be a dishonorable kill system, but the decided they will not implement it, even tho its printed...

Patch 1 was a catastrophe, as the devs obviously had the right idea, but they overdid it, and it took three emergency patches to stop the players migrating away to other MMOs.

Edit: Btw longblade, wth are u talking about :o ?

Game balancing in a MMORPG is on-going. I played EQ for 5 years and they spent 4 yrs tweaking the game systems and doing "class" balancing, and people were still unhappy. And the rules then chnaged with each new release that was added to the game. You have to learn to live with tweaking or find another game. Myself, I am mostly happy about tweaking, it shows they are at least watching what is going on.

My single biggest beef with the game at this time is "communications from the designers". Nevrax have obviously taken a decision to remain out of the player world, this isactually probably a good thing. If I was running a game I would be inclined to shield my developers from the dribble that gets posted on these forums or have some kind of filtering system.

What I would really like to see however is some kind of monthly 'producers letter' that gives us some honest feedback and a bit of behind-the-scenes news about how the game is doing. A lot of players have a genuine interest in how the game/company is going etc. They also - well me also - would like a bit more feedback on why some things were done/will be done. I dont want to know if damage was increased by x2.345, I want to know 'damage for mobs was increased because our reports showed that the player to creature death ratio was making an alarming plunge as players leveled more" (and I can well imagine that a player to creature death ratio statistic would actually be useful).

Mob numbers in PR were increased because the 'amount of supreme materials in game" was obvisouly way above our expectations... etc etc etc

Just the basics. There is nothing more frustrating to me, as a player, to see a change brought into a game that seems utterly beyond my comprehension, I would like to have my 'comprehension' mollified just a few times now and then... after the fact is fine.

Most of us are adults (omg! who would have guessed), and would like to be treated that way.

And finally I hate faceless people, faceless corporations... give me a face please.

That is probably the single best, extraordinarily reasonable idea on dev communication put forth by a player in months.

Now to put some feet to the fire. How about it passing this along with a confirmation one way or another Lawrence, or Soulsnatcher, or Shadowweb, assuming you still monitor the boards?

Someone must be editing the boards as they deleted the link from his post..

I put in a ticket some weeks ago in suggestions, for a way to track our tickets and see the devs feedback on the bugs/suggestions we put in, wether stuff will be considerd wether its a bug or wether they think we need to stop taking drink/drugs.

Since beta there has never been comunication between devs and players (as far as im aware)

Its usually the same story with suggestions or bugs nowadays, you put your ticket in, a guide/gm replys vry prompt saying "your ticket has been upgraded happy hunting and have a nice day".

At first i thought wow these guys are good, so fast in there replys, but the devs seem to let them down. yesterday i put a ticket in to query the dodge mod value part of the other nights patch, as it clearly says dodge mod values have been fixed. But there still not showing on weapons/armours. The reply i got was that the gm's were looking in to it. This is a whole 24 hours after the patch i would have thought they could have found out in those 24 hours wether it was a badly worded update notes or wether there attempt at fixing it had failed =/ surely i wasnt the first person to put a ticket in for this in the 24 hours?
