Hi, welcome to SOR. Btw, I'm also quite new to this game, been on it only for a week. This is what I understand. You need to get the quantity of at least 1 in order to extract any whole items. Btw, I believe u have the ground stability skill. Try extracting 2-3 times before using ground stability or preservation once or twice (depending on the rate they drop). Then do 1 extraction and then ground stability or preservation. (And keep doing this)
However, when the time is nearing up and you have let say 0.8 quantity, then dun care about the stability and just extract (but dun do the same for source life as it will deplete the source - unless the resources are not the one you are looking for). Let it explode or release gas (most prolly you will manage to survive it)
Unregistered wrote:Crafting: So how the heck do I even start crafting? I've searched and searched in game and in these forums and I haven't found anything. I'd really like to be able to craft and Harvest but now I'm completely stuck on how to advance any =(
Help from some experienced crafters and harvesters would be appreciated.
For crafting, you will need to know the initial crafting skill (that is you start with at least a package for crafting) If you did not choose it, then you need to use 50 skills points from one of the skill type (fighting, magic, harvesting) to buy the initial skill set.
With the initial skill set, you shall be able to craft light armour. Then you have to buy an armour crafting tool from the tool merchant. Finally you need to collect the materials (If i dun remember wrongly, you need 2 clothes, 2 linings, 1 fillings and 1 armour clip) Collect the materials and then activate the armour crafting skill by clicking on it. You will craft a piece of light armour (i think you start with boots)
Happy gaming

Btw, for your information on some of the skills
1. Resource preservation - increases the source life bar of the node
2. Ground stability - increases the explosion bar of the node
If you have both, try combining them together. Edit one of them by right clicking on it and then select select.

Harvesting changes when you reach level 10. As you have probably noticed it can explode or leak harmful gas now.
When you start an extraction, there are two things that will affect your final materials. Speed and rate, these gives you more materials with higher quality (depending on source and extraction level).
What limits this it the time you have (top bar) and the source life. So for instance an extraction of a Q50 source with a level 50 extraction might go like this>
action #, quantity, quality, final quantity
1, 0.3, 10, 0
2, 0.9, 22, 0
3, 1.1, 38, 1
4, 1.4, 42, 1
5, 1.9, 50, 1
6, 2.4, 50, 2
7, 3.0, 50, 3
Now if the time runs out before action 3 is complete, you don't have a complete extraction (anything below 1.0 in quantity is incomplete). And you get the "You weren't able to extract any whole items from this source".
So make certain that the time and source life don't run out before you have at least one whole quantity.
If you use careplans you will have less time to extract, so use them wisely.
Another hint, check the system info window, it will give the source a number from 0 to 5, which gives the source its behaviour and how it is affected by harmful and careful extraction.
When you start to get the hang of them, you know when to use care plans and when to just take the damage.
For crafting you need three things> materials, crafting tools and a crafting plan+action.
Normally you have the "weapon crafting 1" with "dagger" and "weapon crafting tool". If you don't have any of this, you have to buy the craft tool at a merchant for 1000 dappers, and use 50 skill points in either magic, harvest or combat to gain the "crafter start" (or whatever it is called, I forgot).
To start an crafting, select the craft tool, press the crafting action. In the empty box in the new window choose the crafting plan. The plan now shows which materials are need and how many. When all are full press craft.
Level 1 crafting needs at least Q10 materials, if anything lower is used, the final item will not be better that the lowest quality.

Just to make it completely clear, the quality of the finished product is always equal to (or less if you fail the action) the lowest quality material you use, and never above the max quality given by which action you are using to craft it (crafting 1 gives you maxQ10, crafting 2 gives you maxQ20 etc)

Good catch
Writing in the arm pit of the early morning, often leads to an interesting read after wakeing up
