Radeon 9700 Pro incompatibility with SoR

Hi!

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro AIW and my 4.2 Catalyst drivers (with DX9.0b) were about six months old. I noticed with SoR that the rendering on parts of my character's body would disappear and reappear, so I downloaded the newest 4.9 Catalyst drivers and installed those instead of my old 4.2s. Well, now the only time any of the interface bars have any text on them at all is when I keep my cursor directly over my character's body. Otherwise, health/etc. bars, inventory bar, chat window, and even the box that comes up to quit the game with all just show muted blocks of color with no text at all on them.

Has anyone else had these problems?

I next updated my DX 9.0b to DX 9.0c to go along with the new 4.9 drivers, but it didn't help.

I can try other Catalyst drivers (although I'm stuck with DX 9.0c now unless I want to reformat my hard drive), but I thought I'd try here first in case any of the beta testers, SoR staff or current players know offhand which are the secret Radeon 9700 AIW Pro drivers that actually get along with this game.

Thank you for your time!

Okay, I just fixed my problem with the 4.9 Catalyst drivers (newest ATI drivers available as of 9/04) by going into the SoR configuration and forcing the game to run in D3D instead of leaving it on Auto or OpenGL.

I just figured I would post back here again in case anyone else runs into similar problems.

I had the same problem with the Radeon 9600. I'm going to try your advice, and post the results here.

Well, it solves the problem, but there's a much lower graphics quality as a result. Surely there's another way to resolve this issue.

That's currently the only fix we have available. You might try going into the in-game configurations (Press "U") and upping the overall amount of texture memory to see if that improves quality for you.

Any update to this issue? Just registered so this is the first chance I had to read this thread. I already ordered a refurbished 9700 Pro for $130 so its too late to back out now.

Any replies appreciated.

I too have a Radeon 9700PRO, and Ryzom is near unplayable if I enter a city. I guess I have to turn everything down to minimum just to get a decent framerate.

I believe you are speaking of character fading, when your mouse hovers over your character it "fades" so you can see what's in front of the character. You can turn this off in the interface options, which I did as soon as I figured it out as the fading is done very poorly.
