Suggestion

I think it would be really nice to have a little seperate (optional of course) program that would let users know when the servers are back up (e.g. during patches or whatever).
Just something small and simple that when patch is complete and servers are open again, gm can send system-wide message to this small program which will then popup a window or something saying servers are back online.

It's a live chat with GM attendance 24/7 with a banner across the top telling current Server status among other things.
it's pretty minimal in memory usage and I leave it open at times when the server is having diffuculties.
