1. Desired game experience:
Ryzom offers several types of PvP, each of which has special features:
The duel: allows two players to face off and tackle one another, in public, anywhere in the world. (Later on, duels will be extended to groups)
The PvP challenge: a duel between two characters or two groups that takes place outside of the world where nothing can interfere.
The PvP free for all (arena): a knock-down drag-out fray with no holds barred. A last man standing fight.
The team & guild based PvP : clashes between groups in their effort to gain control of certain regions, notably the Prime Roots. These areas should represent a completely different gameplay more dangerous, a kind of free fire zone.
The PvP faction: allows players to participate in the skirmishes generated throughout the saga.
2. The various forms of PvP:
The duel:
-Area : Only in non PvP areas
-Trigger : mutual consent
-Information : suggestion or confirmation window
-End : at players death or end of duel
-Participants : two characters
-Fight : closed, once triggered
The PvP challenge:
-Area : Only in non PvP areas
-Trigger : mutual consent
-Information : suggestion or confirmation window
-End : at players death or end of PvP challenge
-Participants : from two characters to two full groups
-Fight : closed once triggered
-Impact: area effects do not affect members of your own group
-Targeted attack: cannot attack members of your own group.
The PvP free for all:
-Area : only in arena
-Trigger : automatic once they enter the arena
-Information: full screen message indicating entry into the arena.
-End : on leaving the arena or at players death
-Participants : from two to X characters
-Fight : open once triggered
-Impact: area effects do not affect members of your own group (unless directly targeted)
-Targeted attack: can attack everyone.
The team & guild based PvP :
-Area: only in the Prime Roots or in areas activated by events
-Trigger : automatic once the Prime Roots have been entered
-Information : full screen message indicating the entry into a PvP area
-End : on leaving the Prime Roots or by respawn outside the Prime Roots
-Participants : from two to X characters
-Fight : open once triggered
-Targeted attack: can attack everyone
-Impact: area effects do not affect members of your own group or guild, unless they are grouped with the player who is directly targeted. There are additional rules here regarding the impact of area effects on by-stander guild members in the case where you are fighting against members of your own guild.
The Faction based PvP:
-Area: defined by the events.
-Trigger: when the player enters an area defined as a faction area, he can decide to take the side of one of the two factions or remain neutral.
Note: Should a neutral decide to take sides, he must leave the area and re-enter in order to choose sides andl take part.
Note: taking sides adversely affects the fame of the enemy faction.
-Information: dialog box asking the player to select a camp or remain neutral.
-End: when the player disconnects or at the end of the event.
Note: if the player disconnects and then reconnects during the event, his status when he comes back is neutral.
-Participants : from two to X characters
-Fight : open once triggered
-Impact: only affects those characters of the opposition faction.
-Targeted attack: affects everyone, including the neutral characters (they can fight back against their direct attackers but otherwise remain neutral).
Note: neutral characters cannot launch spells on characters involved in a faction.
3. Features common to all types of PvP:
Increase in xp: no gain in xp in PvP
Death penalty: no xp penalty but the stats (Hp) are dropping.
Ranking: no ranking in chapter 2 but there will be later on.
PvP reward: no reward in chapter 2 but there will be later on (outpost, title, etc.)
