Most of the opinions you will get in the 'questions' sections are negative because people keep coming over here to spill s*it on Ryzom instead of playing their preferred games. You are one of the few people who have actually asked a question about the game. Ryzom is very big controversy. On one hand there are people like me who find Ryzom absolutely fantastic and brilliant on on the other hand there are people who think that the game lacks content and is very complicated.
At the extreme there are people like 'fiftybucks dude' who went crazy and spend their lives in this forum. Probably one day Nevrax will have pity for them and actually hire a kind doctor who will put all their screws where they belong
I would suggest you to try the free trial and find out for yourself, feel free to ask me in game if you have any problems with gameplay.
And by the way there is a lot of players in Ryzom now, you will always be able to find a team no worries about that.

SoR has a poor reputation, which is justified to some extent. There is a lack of content. There are technical issues. There are balance problems. There is a low population.
There's also a great community, a unique approach to gameplay, and a creative and interesting game world.
Ryzom isn't for everyone, but you can find things here that just don't exist in other MMORPGs. If that doesn't interest you, this is probably not your game. If it does, give the free trial a shot.
(And p is right, most of the Ryzom players don't come to these boards. The population here is generally composed of very enthusiastic players who want to advertise, and disappointed ex-players who want to warn others away. I think the reality is somewhere in-between.)
