My FS Lost disconnections. (A running view of efforts to resolve). EDIT: RESOLVED

I have really been struggling with this to date, 2 weeks as the FS Lost Connection status Lockup was completely keeping me from enjoying the game.

This is going to sound really silly to some degree, however it has clearly availed me of new connection statuses I have never seen before. Last nights session after the fix was 10:30 PM - 1:30AM eastern without an FS Lost lockup. Pre-fix I was randomly FS Lost disconnecting every 30-45 minutes and sometimes more frequently.

It seems that the "Media Sensing" that is built into Windows XP is somehow getting confused, and thinking the network connection has disappeared. When this occurs, WinXP unbinds the Networking Protocol stack from the network card in effect resetting all network communications. I identified the situation through an Identification of the idiot light for the port that my computer uses on my Netgear router/switch/WLan Access point was showing that it disconnected at that exact time, and that it was no longer showing any activity. When quitting Ryzom then, I would get the idiot balloon in WinXP that said I had established a connection to the network. Upon further investigation, I was getting event ID 4021 in the event log stating that I had established a connection to the network also. I dug into this issue and tried a few other solutions that did not work before getting to the Media Sensing "Feature"

For how to disable or enable this option. I will post more results tonight and tomorrow as to my experience with this as I continue.

NOTE: This does disable some true features of Windows XP that you may need, or find helpful or useful. Please refer to the article to identify the affects this change will have on your system.

I hope this helps many of the other users out there.

OK, so after further hours and effort, it seems this did not totally repair my issue. However it did seem to help some.

I'll report more as I identify it.

OK, So here is the third update I hope this is helping someone besides me, maybe even the game developers. The Media Sensing has clearly not solved my problem. I am pretty sure ath this point it is the re-boot that helped the situation.

In yesterday's events, I rebooted, logged on and managed 1.5 hours before a FS Lost disconnection. The logout, login has provided a new error message on log in, It is that I am still connected, and have now been booted with the re-login attempt, and I can now login again. This seems to be in place of the old message which stated I was still in game and I would need to wait 30 seconds and try to login again.

So to continue, The second term managed 1.5 hours as well, followed by decresing time constraints. It went down to 30-40 minutes, and then the next time was almost immediately. This would lead me to believe this is a compounding problem, i.e. memory leak or thread pool issue., that grows over time and login/logouts. At this point I re-booted to resolve the issue.

During game play, as noted before with the addition of the media sensing option I have gotten new Connection states, including Probe and synchronizing. The probe state is quite odd, and seems to be more of a "stuck" state where My Ping time goes way up and does not change, say 19000ish, or 8000ish. The ping stays stuck there with no change during this probe state. My upload and download slow to a crawl, with like 73,74 upload, and the same for download. As the Probe state progresses, if it is going to resolve itself, The download rate will slowly grow over a period of 1-3 minutes where it will grow to 200-300, and then sometimes Poof, magic and I am back connected.

So. At this point, I am throwing my Netgear Router, switch,WAP out the window and buying a linksys in the next hour to identify if this assists with the problem. As a side note I do have the port triggering setup and this has not helped at all.

I will report on my findings with the Linksys tonight or tomorrow.

P.S. I would love to get some tech support from the Dev or Product support team.

marc.

OK, here it is the final update to my saga! I did some research on routers, and picked a fine Dlink model. (DI-624). I went to COmpUSA, bought that for $89 - $20 rebate = $69, and I also bought another 512MB of memory to push me to 1GB.

I came home, installed both (added the port triggering), and got on for an hour with no problems. I had to get off then so the wife could do some work. I got on later that night and was 6 Hours without a disconnect. Problem solved, and no I am not planning on figuring out what piece fixed it. I would highly suggest 1GB of RAM though everything is smoother and I was able to crank up the definition in the graphics.

I repeat, 6 HOURS no disconnects!
