Is Mantis Rot spells the same as Poison spells?

My Mantis is 11 magic and thought I could train him in poison by now. I went to the trainer and noticed that Rot spell was offered. Is Rot the same thing as Poison?

No, Rot is not the same as Poison. Rot, Acid, and Cold are spells available at all trainers starting at level 0.
Poison is a racial specific spell that becomes available at higher levels (125, i think). Each race has a specific spell that you can only get at that race's trainers.

the Matis poison spell is a special action you don't gain access to until lvl 125 elemental magic. rot is not the same, it does high damage to plants and plant-like creatures.
