What this game needs....

There has to be a better way of assessing mob threat, the star system is rubbish (imo) It give me no accurate measure of the difficulty of a kill, some two stars are easier than one stars (not in same mob natch).

Also it gives no idea of the agressivness of a particular mob towards a player. This means in exploration, you dont necessarily know what is going to attack you, the names are weird with their Fearsome/Frightning/Feral names not having any bearing on whether something will attack you on sight.

This brings about a trial and error situation that really jacks up the DP cost.

The game should have a skill (to buy) that allows you to click on a critter and have a brief description tool tip to appear on the screen, that lets you know it's demanour. In FF it is a skill called Scan.

My tuppence worth anyway....

Encyclopedia?

To be honest, I appreciate the "realistic" approach.
ie No levels on players that you can see, basic map, region based chat etc.
Gives things more depth imo, but that's just me.

Is a game of trial and error, not spoon to mouth, and I hope they keep it that way.

Again, with the encyclopedia etc I think a lot of things will be fleshed out.

I like the game as it is but if they used my ideas of push bikes and mopeds this game would eb doomed :P

Wait'll you start racking up the DP 'cos of the trial and error system, and cant find anything worthwhile to kill to work it off, unless you are in a team of 5/6 and got to Thesos for a night....yep....that's realism :D

Mopeds wouldn't be any good anyway, cos the critters can teleport, I dont know if the teleportation is realistic or not as the physics of Atys remain a mystery to me :D

Well, you are right about one thing. You don't know what is going to attack you, when you first start playing the game.
But once you have been with the game for a while, you start to realize that most of the carnivores or aggros ,or however you want to call them, have the same descriptive "title". Scowling, growling, baying and so on are just some examples.
And besides that, you always have the option to ask in region chat if a certain mob is an Aggro or not.
That worked pretty fine for me.

And therefore, I wouldn't "waste" any sp on a skill that just tells me exactly those things, that you can learn or ask about.

And all in all, I think that all the Homins out there, that are not the veteran warriors, will and should learn things like that, not just know them.

Thats something you have to learn by yourself IMO... it would be boring if you could just travel across land, knowing exactly wich creatures that will attack you...

Honestly I like the way it is.
Not knowing makes you discover something.
I don't want "Ryzom for dummies guide", but find out myself and talk to people.

Yes dying happens if you don't watch it.
First time passing the south border of majestics to fleeting ended in 4 deaths.
But then I learned to stop before, move my mouse over every space to see if there is a ginge and then find my way through it.
Now I just pull my way free one by one.

So for me this vageness is very appealing.

Seems to me this is another case of 'make it easy for me' - really, how many pointers do you want when you play this game?

You're basically asking for an accurate guage, which places a 'weanling mektoub' on a big chart of mob difficulty. Why do you want this? If you were out wandering in a strange place, and you came across a monster you hadn't seen before, you would *not* know the monsters strengths and weaknesses, nor would you know it's aggro levels. Do you know what would win between a deadly snake and a killer spider? No, unless you watch "When snakes battle spiders 3" on TV...

You are supposed to be learning things here - think how boring week 3 of playing would be, if you learned everything in week 1, or had huge charts and tables to see all these statistics. The dev's won't waste an entire game for people who can't be bothered to learn, and to die trying it when that happens.

Also the point about FF 'Scan' is bit irrelevant really, for several reasons. I only played FF7 to be honest, but aren't almost all fights random and unavoidable? Scan can only be used once you're in a fight, so there's no way it tells you the aggro level - in FF, aggro level = max, unavoidable. Scan only tells you the HP/MP levels of the enemy, not it's intentions.

And again, there is an obvious reason for 2-star yubos being weaker that 1-star mektoubs - they're different sizes, yes? :-) Different animals altogether. There is a large amount of trial and error in most people's lives - this also translates to games too. You don't have access to masses of info because you're a single homin, still to start their life of learnin and adventure. So learn to live with it, or go play tetris or something :-D

To simplify thinks for the 'I need to know in advance crowd':

When you start the game in newbie land - you know zero about the mobs!

What did you do?

1. rush out and hit the first thing you met?
2. ask someone else?

Option 1 is valid if nobody else is around, or you are brave (spelt stupid some times)

Ok so the first thing you attacked (Yubo for example)- did it kill you?

Yes - note in you mind its strength (green 2 star)

Now look for a green 1 star, same species!

You killed it! Woohoo first leason learned lvl1 can kill green 1 star but not green 2 star (Yubos).

Make note suckling = weaker than weaning!

Kill a number of suckling Yubos till you are feeling stronger.

Lets try one of those green 2 star Weaning Yubos.

Woot killed it!

based only on what we have learned so far:

2 star > 1 star
Named prefixes are another guide.

We can work our way up through Yubos.

What to do once you are a little tired of Yubos....

Humm tough choice.....

I know kill a different species! That sound like fun.

Now do we go and kill a 2 star of a new species?

mabe - but we died when we did that last time! So lets find a 1 star to be safe.

Humm Yuber - bash bash - oooh there easy ... lets try a 2 star .... humm these kill me so mabe not all 2 stars are equal. If fact when fighting that 1 star Yuber it was almost as hard as fighting the 2 star Yubo!

Leasons Learned....

Not all species are the same some are tougher than others.
Always start with a 1 star for a species/region
Kill enough of the ones you can kill till you tough enough to kill the next, more stronger, ones.
Prefixes have a meaning and rate the species.


So far you have learned everything you need to know about 'wisely' judging you enemies strength.

Aggro vs social vs non-social vs non-aggro ... etc

We if it starts a fight with you, its AGGRO
if when you hit it, its friends stand there an laugh, non-social
if you hit it and its mates join in a kill you its, social
etc

I think you get my point here!

So if you are careful and take a little time to study the world.

Aggros will also attack other mobs.

Find a nice place to stand/sit and WATCH.

Study the groups of mobs. You will learn what to avoid and what doesn't want to eat you doing this alone!

So far we have learned alot and we have died only a few times and our DP is small at this point and fast to remove. But the knowledge we have gained is ours forever!


All of the above has been done, without a system tell you whats easy and whats not. In fact doing the above can be classed as FUN by people like me!

So from Newbie land to the mainland ... a large number of the mobs look the same but have different names (some have the same names :P yey I can kill them).

Now every now and then you come across an NEW never seen before creature.

Do we:

1. rush up and hit it?
2. remember everything we have learn before and study it a bit?

Personally I would go for 2. everytime!

I have a prefix to give me a clue!
I have a star and region rating to give me a clue
The creature may look similar to another creature, (that might help)
Ask some if they have fought them

Only after doing all of the above would I consider hitting it with a stick!

Sometime you will make mistakes, wrong assumptions, or the creature just might be way stronger than your clues lead you to believe!

Only this or some bad luck should result in DP! Unless you are braving areas you are not ready for!


Hope this helps ..... but the above is just common sense to me!
