how long is character kept on database

anyone know how long your character reamins on the database after you cancel your account - might come back in a few months

I cannot say for sure though I know I saw the official answer somewhere. I cannot see why they'd be in a hurry to delete accounts, one would think they would want to welcome Homins back for any reasonable time ?

We will guarantee characters for 6 months after someone cancels. After that, *shrug*.

but will you actively delete them ?
Anarchy Online guaranteed characters for 3 months, but even after a character was unplayed for 3 whole years it still wasnt deleted, it even had the buffs it had when logged out running
Oh and even deleted characters from 3 years back could be resurrected as they werent actually cleaned from the databases
Anything like this here ?

i think the shrug means they're not actively deleting, but can't be sure if it'll still be there.

*shrug* = she doesn't know I'm guessing.
It's going to purely be up to the devs, no way to tell either way, just like in EQ, or other games. Only time will tell

Basically I think it means if you come back within 6 months, your character will still be there. After 6 months, don't count on it.

I would guess Yep.
I know in EQ that some players would play ONLY during spring/summer months, others were ONLY fall/winter. And they would ONLY pay when they played, and just left the account inactive for the other half of the year.
But then EQ DID have a data base clear not TOO long ago (two years, ish maybe) and they DID send out an email to notify the inactives and actives. But still MANY inactives were at school at the time and had to start over, some of them didn't come back after that.
But honestly it WAS time, there were ALOT of under level 20 characters that were rotting on the server, not touched in months or even YEARS. I think that they deleted over 10K under level 10 characters in that flush. That freed up ALOT of space for other things/characters.
BUT that was the ONLY character flush I recall in six years of playing the game.
