How exactly does quality of armor affects received damage ?
For instance: NPC vests - from Fyros noob territory - irregardles of quality (10,20,30) have precisely the same stats: protection 8.5%, max vs. types 0/0/0
Still they cost differently, so I would assume that they also perform differently. My question - how ? If it's dependent on character's level, what type (fight/magic/...) is taken when ?
Also, I read in one of the older threads, that max vs. types is actually the cap for how much damage is absorbed. But that would mean that npc armors are worthless.. ?
Some clarifications ?
armor, quality & stuff - question
Re: armor, quality & stuff - question
In my experience armour works like weapons, armour of a certain quality is best used versus an opponent of the corresponding level.soltys wrote:How exactly does quality of armor affects received damage ?

A set of Q50 armour, for example, will work best against a level 50 (or lower) enemy.
An enemy of a higher level will be able to penetrate the armour, the higher above your quality the level of the enemy is, the less protection it will offer.
Your level is also a factor when it comes to protection, not for your armour, but for your defense (dodge/parry) skill. The higher above your highest level the opponent's weapon quality (That's what an NPC's 'level' really is - the quality of their body parts (weapons)) is, the harder it will be for you to dodge.
The 'max vs' is the absorbtion cap for different damage types. I don't think animals do different types of damage though (The protection percentage seems to be consistant for those), so far i've assumed that the 'max vs' values only refer to weapon damage from other players or homin NPC's.
Concerning the storebought armour - Storebought gear is supposed to be bad, to encourage crafting or buying from a crafter.
It doesn't suck, but it's really bad compared to crafted gear.

Re: armor, quality & stuff - question
the zeros are a stat bug with vendors. i'm not sure what the actual max #s are for npc armor since i've never worn any but my own. the higher the QL the higher the max vs. #s are. at q50 iirc max vs. was around 70ish for all of them + or - depending on mats used. at q110 it's inbetween 170 and 210 for all the max vs. stats. this is for hvy armor, which has a constitution requirement of the QL - 10. the protection % will always be round 47-50%.
medium works the same way, just with a lower constitution requirement and a 22-25% protection rate.
light is again, the same but with NO constitution requirement and a 7-12% protection rate.
the only way mobs can negate your armor is with the ignore armor attack, or with their special attacks. BUT, a lvl 250 mob probably won't care that your q10 hvy armor absorbed 30 dmg(max vs w/e) of his 2200 dmg attack. the only way your level affects your armor's effectiveness is that you won't have a high enough constitution at lvl 50 for q80 hvy armor, or q100 medium armor.
wearing q250 light armor at lvl 1 will cause the armor to wear out faster though. so it's not ALWAYS a good idea to be wearing your max'd out armor.
hope this has helped, i'm sure i've missed a few things since armor is pretty complex in ryzom. gl hf
