Champion of Atys - Gladiator Event!

Homins, I bring you tidings from Tecapio, Fightmaster of Atys...

In preparation for the turbulent times ahead we are creating a training regime in all the lands. To judge how well you are performing against your fellow friends each of the four lands will have a league of gladiators and mages to show who is the mightiest of the land. The top two champions from each land will then compete against each other to decide the Champion of Atys.

The league will be formed after an initial tournament to decide your starting positions in the league.

Rules:

Gladiators
Armour: Any armour may be worn
Weapons: Any weapon may be used
Magic: Spells may not be used
Power stanzas: Self Heal, Self Stam may be used
No external help is allowed, except at the end of the duel - when healing/stam may be used on any of the Gladiators involved.

Mages
Armour: Light/Caster armour only may be worn
Weapons: Magic Amplifiers may be used
Magic: Any spell may be used
Power stanzas: Self Heal, Self Sap may be used
No external help is allowed, except at the end of the duel - when healing/stam may be used on any of the Gladiators involved.

League:
Challenges - You may challenge someone upto and including 3 places above you in the league. For example, someone in 10th position may challenge the 9th, 8th and 7th placed people.

Fights must be held in the presence of, and witnessed by a Guide or GM, their decision on the event is final.

Should the Challenger win, they will move into the losers position and the loser will move down one place. For example, if the 10th placed person challenged the 7th place person and won, they would move into 7th place and the loser would move down to 8th place.

League tables will be maintained on the forums for you to check your latest position.


Championship:
The top 2 players from the gladiators and the mages league will compete in a world championship on a monthly basis. This will take the form of a mini-league, where all 8 players will play each other twice. The top 4 players will then go through to a knock-out competition to decide the winner.

The winning Gladiator and Mage will then compete in a best of 3, Champion of Champions competition.


To initiate the competition the initial contests will take place in the four capitals, one a night.
The dates for those contests will be posted here.

Remember, sharpen your blades and repair those worn out amplifiers and be prepared.

Plans for a tournament type event is in the works. Keep an eye out for announcements.

I think the player base is still a bit too young for something like this. Maybe when the average "here since launch" player is in the 200 range then I think it would be more worth the effort required to organize it.

Sounds neat though. I would be willing to get my blue butt beat around a bit if Nevy decided to run with it.

Player base are you kidding me? This is realy cool! Come on we could do this over and over. It would be great!

Not everyone needs to be the same 200+ level as long as competitors are in the same level range. I think this could be a great idea for a recurring event. Maybe weekly?

I dont know how often it should be but, I would like to see the battles if I lost or couldnt particapate. Id like to know how they would organize this. It would be neat if it were in an arena of some kind. I know I would buy a ticket.

Can you imagine the bragging rights for the guild or individual that wins.

I do not consider the idea exciting, as it is now combat options are rather limited, the developers should work onto making effective multiple combat options (making aimed hits more effective, or giving options of finesse over power as well) right now would be on who wears the best armor got more levels and hits harder tournaments... I do not think it's much exciting expecially since 90% of the people uses two hander weapons.
weapon/shield, weapon/weapon, two hander weapon, unarmed and other styles of fighting should been made a bit more balanced each other.. two handers could hit less.. but more powerfully even if slower... while small weapons and faster ones could hit a bit more often...
still it's a good idea, at a latter stage of the game, possibly in a few months when several combat methods has been discovered, and maybe the developers will allow dual sword wielding and things alike.

hmmm anyone ever thought to introduce whips? and disarming moves?

No, realy I see your point but, the winner could be in over all skills 2h, 1h, close combat, magic and the armor and weapons would depend on your guild or own crafting/forage skill. If not then your ablity to find and buy armor/weapons. Think about it if done right this could be big.

I do believe there is a portion of the staff that is not development. These people hold events. Maybe do minor temporary code changes...I could be wrong.

I think your right. I hope they come up with somthing. The UK server seems to be having alot of fun with their events. Maby after the big meeting in Pyr?

I was in a dual with a friend today it was fun. Now I want this to happen even more.
