Fighting from steeds

Post by ethania »

I was thinking of how the mektoub mounts was going to be, once in the game. They will shurely be something I want to own!
But howabout fighting from them? I know the devs has said it won't be possible, but that is a bad idea I think. What will the use be than? What if I get attacked? Or can I outrun everything whit the steed? (ferrari-mektoub :)
I'm not thinking af a way to powergame. More like the cool way it would look if there were knigts of some sort out there. As the homins are poor riders, maybe the only usable weapons should be long weapons. Something like 2H-weapons or range weapons. One maybe shouldn't be able to use special attacks since that might be diffecult for us homins. But the basic attack? Way not? Even though I play a homin, I can assure you he would atleast trye to fire his gun even on the back of a mektoub! (if the davs wouldn't make it impossible)

To not make us able to fight from the back of steeds would make the mektoub rideing unitresting for at least me? Anyone else thinks this way?

I would have to agree that this would definately be more interesting. Also if we can't fight from our steeds, we're dead in the saddle. I'm guessing that like equiping a weapon, there will be a delay time to dismount. This could mean death to most, jsut like changing weapons in the middle of combat can get you killed. So I think fighting from steed would be a good idea, even if they limited it in some way like you suggested.

Still, will be kinda kool to be able to ride things across the desert. :D

Further to this, I agree with both points - however on top of the delay dismounting, your mektoub mount would be dead before you could finish killing the mobs as it would take most hits while you are on it and dismounting and if there is more then one mob, then one kill it while they others try to kill you.....

I think the mounts need to be as fast as the speed powerup, however last alot longer....
I also think that basic use of appropriate weapons like the spear/lance and pistols should be allowed while riding.

PLease anyone else here agree?

[EDIT] - This was also mentioned on the NA "New" Whishlist....

A crafting tree to allow Armour to be crafted for your mektoub.
The light/medium/heavy will have increasing penalities as it does now for Homins.

Eg. Mount runs out of staminer 3 times quicker in heavy...

Not only will this look cool, but it means if a pack of Goari or Gingos cross your path, at least your mount has a chance :P

Fighting from a mount, for simplicity, should be the same as fighting standing. The mounted character should simply be the character, but the graphic would show them on a mount. No changes to the melee system are required. The mount is untargetable whilst it has a rider, the target IS the rider. When the rider dies the mount dies.

This is the easiest way to implement it.

Further enhancements would be nice tho.

PS Using a 2handed weapon from a mount requires much greater skill then using a 1H.

Phew, I was scared noone would say that, maybe restrict it to 1 handed melee weaps, ranged weapon on a mount would be difficult realistically and way too good in game.

Unless the mount is standing completely still, in which case shooting from the saddle is about as accurate as shooting while standing. Which is still hard at the best of times...

Would be cool for your mount to be able to fight back too.
Mounts do need abit of protection, I haven't bothered with them because they're expensive and with mobs as they are dead in a min.

"The mount is untargetable whilst it has a rider, the target IS the rider. When the rider dies the mount dies."
This sounds most reasonable.

Perhaps they could even make fighting from mounts another branch of the melee skill tree......

I can see it now - 'Charge' skill... 'Mounted 1h/2h Melee' skill...

Imagine during an invasion, a Homin cavalry regiment charging the Kitin hordes... I'd pay money to see that.
