WoW vs Ryzom (my point of view)

Ok I played the open beta of World of Warcraft (WoW) yesterday for an hour or 10.

Heres my history of MMORPGs that I have been playing for more than 30 hours a week :)
Dark age of Camelot, City of Heroes, Eve Online, Saga of Ryzom, Warcraft 3 & TFT/Diablo/GuildWars (no MMORPG)

That was just to let you know im not new to online gaming ;)

This Is my review on Ryzom VS. WoW

Lets start off with a really easy one :)

General graphics
let me start with Ryzom, I have never played a game before where I can just run around for an hour doing nothing and still love the game just because it looks so great. Stopping at most mobs and stuff to see the highly details and all the creative work that has been done by the developers of SoR. What I miss tho in SoR is the lack of difrent skins for each weapon type. I’ll explain:
An axe only has 3 types one Is the shop type (that no one really wants) and there is crafted (common) and there is shiny crafts :)
In WoW you have a lot of different types I personally like that.

Ok now for the overall graphics from WoW……. THEY STINK… sorry that I had to do that but omg omg omg Don’t believe the hype! Its pathetic really..
Sorry about that :) but here is why:
When you startup WoW you will see the best looking intro screen you can imagine (like Blizzard always has sinse they have there own movie makers and sound team etc etc). Than they take you to an ingame move slowly progressing to your avatar. In that movie I almost started crying when seeing the Nintendo 8bit textures and renderings.. but never the less.. before I can flame most guys I know who want to play WoW I promised myself I would play for some hours so that I could get better things to comment :) anyway like I said the items are nice.. lots of different things :) I like it.

Overall grade on the discussed items:
Ryzom 9
WoW 6

Character Creation
Well another point for Ryzom.. Here’s the breakdown:
Apart from skin color some facial expressions (fixed) and some hair theres just nothing to choose in WoW :( apart from all the wonderfull features SoR has with character creation.. ofcourse SoR has not the best ever but it is better than WoW.

Overall grade on the discussed items:
Ryzom 8
WoW 4

Quests and Mobs
First of all Quests.. I must say the quests in WoW are good. Fast “easy” and they give good items/XP. What I also like is that you get XP for exploring the land :)
For all you Patch 1 haters: if you run a bit to far in WoW you will die horribly to aggro mobs.. ;) in SoR you don’t have really good quests in my humble opinion ;) you get cash from them and a lot yes that’s tru.. but I like getting items and stuff like that so I think WoW wins the quest part. Looking at the mobs tho.. WoW clearly has a lack of new ideas.. Really lame mobs IMHO safari animals and all the stuff you know from the Warcraft series..

Overall grade on the discussed items:
Ryzom 6
WoW 6

Interface
WoW has a nice interface but its fixed.. the thing I really hate about MMORPGs Its my virtual world! Let me be the judge of where I want my team window :P
SoR has a good interface.. I would only love to see it being skinnable :) would it not be great to let peeps skin there interface :)

Overall grade on the discussed items:
Ryzom 8
WoW 7

What I did like in WoW and what is not in SoR (yet).
Pets. I like the idea of having a pet (yobo for example :) ) just for fun it does not have to do anything but it would just look good :)
Checking other peeps In WoW you can inspect the person standing next to you to see his/her stats and equipment I like that ;)
Not mutch I saw I would like to see in SoR exept for the playerbase ;)

Ill stop for now cos its making me sad that WoW was creating such a hype for a game that looks like the last game they brought out only from a different angle :(

Overall grade on WoW vs SoR:
Ryzom 8
WoW 7

SoR is still higher on my playlist.. BUT if there will be a patch for the graphics in WoW anywhere in the near future.. Ryzom will have a harder time im afraid.. the items etc in WoW are more fun than in Ryzom and there are a lot of gameplay things I like in WoW but he why do you think I stopped playing Diablo II :P graphics get old… when there old.. you don’t want to play it anymore.. WoW was old before they even launched the game :|

Rant discuss give me your point of view :)

Kaboom out…

One point I'd like to make..

You said about only 3 axe types in SoR. Actually that would be 3 per civilization, totalling 12.

one more thing i would like to add :)

when SoR promised me a living world they gave me a living world with trees moving and grass moving in the wind etc.. WoW has NONE of that...

This is true. It does not give a living feeling. Though gameplay > graphics in the end i.m.h.o.

I dont know if I have to ad this, but isn't WoW kind of childish in its graphic? Atleast I think so!
