Is it out and 2 is on it's way?
I'm surprised you haven't heard the screams. *giggle* Yes, Patch 1 was released. I'm not sure what the current state of Patch 2 is, but I'd suspect it will be delayed due to the fact that they're trying to stop the bleeding caused by Patch 1 right now (though to be fair, they might have a second team working on the different issues). Patch 1 radically increased creature strength, shortened combat time (making combat less about strategy/skill selection and more about "hit it as hard as possible as quick as possible"). Death rates have been skyrocketing and players have been leaving by truckloads. I'm fairly certain I saw a Tryker in the Lakelands building an ark, having convinced himself it was the end of the world; he refused to take any of the newly strengthened creatures onboard, though.
There are still those who fiercely defend the game, and Nevrax
is working on changes (they made three mini-patches in three days following Patch 1), though none of them fixed the core problems with the revamped combat system. Still, one has to believe that they'll reach a point where they'll be able to attract new players again. It'd be nice if they'd completed that before opening the game to free trials, but whatcha' gonna do? *shrug* There's currently a stickied thread on the NA forum stating that another mini-patch to tweak combat is planned for Tuesday the 16th, so a lot of us are keeping our fingers crossed for that. Regarding Patch 2, no firm dates of any kind have been released yet. The only tentative date mentioned was "four or five weeks after the release of Patch 1." Given the trouble Patch 1 has caused, that may or may not be the case.
Cheers.

Patch came out...oh yes, ....
Their idea of fun was not what most players thought so when they released the patch, they also released a lot of the playerbase to go try other games
They even took down the players logged in at the bottom of the forums so that you cannot see how few are left now.

Funny how one can see what he wants to see...
Patch 1 changed a lot of things, and particularly modified the gameplay. Some players didn't like this and cried and whined, so it has been re-patched twice since, too come nearer to the players wish.
What can we see with this?
First, that players who didn't even play one day with the patch allow themselves to judge, without asking themselves if they could change a bit their behavior IG and therefore give a fresh look to the game.
Second, that 12-years players can't change the way they play after only 2 months of release. That's pretty ridiculous, in an ever-changing world.
Third, that players have been heard very quickly and the game modified immediatly with the feedbacks.
So... Make your choice. You wanna go on wow or eq2? Go! You'll see how you don't count for these companies, wait six months for the patches, play the same dark elve or troll that you've played on all mmorpgs since 8 years...
So much fun.

1. Major change to gameplay in that grouping now a neccessity, not an option - loss of soloability.
2. Major migration of players making grouping with appropriate levels inadequate at best.
3. Patch introduced some cool new feature, I am not totally negative nor did I want to be. Some of what SoR is trying to do is wonderful. It is the core playbility that has suffered. No amount of cool graphics can hold players interests when the stress level of gameplay is exceeding some players thresholds of enjoyment.
4. The game has no real content at the moment, only kill, dig or craft. All races separated by the Prime Roots meaning now way to interact with each other, but then... it is another area with different scenery, same lack of content.
5. Many of the players listred as simply Whiners and Crybabies actually have posted elaborate heartfelt reasons for their disapproval, some constructive, some not. The playerbase is not dwindleing because of a couple of disenchanted players...but many disenchanted players.
6. Many who have left site the same reason, and aloso the same hope it gets fixed the next time they come around to take a second look and make a more final decision about SoR.
