This post is not intended to insult anyones intellect that knows the ins and outs of online gaming, but we felt like we needed to relieve ourselves of The Saga of Ryzom.
Basically it came down to a couple of things.. We have both played mmorpg's for over 5 years, starting with Asheron's Call and Evercrack.. Then we moved on to Anarchy Online and SWG.. Basically playing everything under the sun in the online gaming realm..
After reading the reviews of Ryzom we were anticipating it to be a great game, but..
- There are no quests in the game. There are missions, which is fine.. However the missions are the weakest that I have EVER seen in any game. Run outside of town and kill 2 mobs. Run outside of town and target this mob. Craft this piece of armor 5 times and trade it back to me. These were far from entertaining, but alas a means to acquire dapper. Well, with the wonderful changes I think we all have felt the dapper cut on the missions. How is a new player supposed to make SOME money in order to purchase new gear? Where is the content??
- There are no dungeons. Every online game of this type needs to have adverse environments for it's players to interact with. True the outdoor graphics are nice, but if your giving me a sword and shield or an Acid Spell you had better give me some dungeon lurking too. Sadly, games made over 5 years ago had MUCH better content despite rough starts as well. You can do quests right off the bat in Asheron's Call, HUNDREDS of individual dungeons.. In Anarchy Online, you actually enter a building or den *ooh ahh!* and go through a mission.. Do you do that here?? No.. Where is the content??
- We felt like the community was initially very week compared to other online games. Usually a game is announced and then a player base builds in anticipation of the game. The game goes live and then the community comes to life.. We felt like there was little to offer in the way of this.. Things seem to be doing better now, but go take a look at any of the upcoming online games.. See a difference??
- The First Patch... They are never a good thing.. I will give them props for patching the patch to the patch in a timely fashion... What the hell were you thinking when you let it hit live servers!?! USE THE ATS!!! There is no way that patch was played "for weeks" as was said by living human beings!! Either that or Nevrax does not listen to it's testers for sh_t...
I am very upset that I dished out over $100 usd for a game that was about 1/2 as good as Asheron's Call or Everquest, games that started this whole thing 5 years ago!!!
I met some very cool people in my time here. I really wish you all the best of luck and hope the game come through for you..
For those of you new to online gaming and feel you are experts and *need* to express your opinion on how great the combat/magic/crafting/devs/gm's are in Ryzom, you REALLY need to open up your eyes and explore the online gaming community before you are so apt to kiss a$$. I have played better browser based games....
