Assessing the Damage

I simply do not understand what happened. I am a very casual player who managed to get to level 50 by now and I have played since the beginning. Realistically that would mean I would reach lvl 250 in a lot more than the projected 6 months given that the time needed to level increases as we go along. I had fun exploring, managed to get a peak into the surrounding areas of matisland but died here often and hard.
Patch I came along
- Fighting became a one hit fest. Mobs hit hard and could not take much damage. No strategic approach was possible.
- Dodging was impossible and magic was resisted.
- Harvesting became very hard which also makes crafting your own armor impossible
- Mobs aggro from very far distances and respawn immediately resulting in blocked paths.
Result: It was absolutely unenjoyable. Playing reminded me of the stories from the Prime Roots, just that mobs below my level acted like kinchers.
In a frenzy the developers put out an emergency patch to remedy the situation.
- Fighting became even harder. Mobs deal the same damage as in Patch I but have a lot more HP.
- Harvesting is a joke now. It is possible to pull a number of mats from sources that were hard to pull before Patch I. If anybody was worried about too much leveling harvesting before, they should be running in circles now.
Result: In my opinion Ryzom is in a broken state now. Exploring the world became a state of running from mobs that are way below my level and do not give any XP when killed. It is basically impossible to work of DP other than harvesting.
I honestly think that the developmental team took a huge step back. Instead of actually implementing small changes (increase damage by 10%, increase XP needed for another level by 50%), everything was changed by a huge margin changing the game completely.
I understand that there are characters with levels 150+ out there that scared Nevrax but currently small players like me are the ones who lost. I am wondering why Nevrax did not consider other possible remedies for high level characters at this early stage of the game. If I am not able to enjoy a simple fight or seeing my new armor as something that I worked a reasonable amount of time for then I do not see a reason to continue playing.
My hopes are that the developers (and not the CSR or GM guys) will take a good look at the gameplay before and after the patch and remedy the situation. I personally did not see anything really broken before but a huge amount of things have been "fixed" to death.
