We Can Relax For Now!

Yesterday the first major SoR patch went live! As you all know the patch has been up on the advanced test server for some weeks and had been well tested by a select group of dedicated players. Having watched the reactions to the first evening's play closely (we really do listen, despite what some may think), we are pleased to announce that the dev teams are preparing a new patch to fine tune the combat and iron out the difficulties that some players were having.
The patch will also include the foraging changes that were announced yesterday, based on player feedback from the Advanced Test Server.
You wanted it, you got it.
And of course we'd love to hear your views on the changes as you experience them in game.
Thanks

Excellent news. I'm sure a lot of people are happy because of this. I knew the devs would come through!

I think its time we all had access to ATS.
Selective means you paid in advance for the game.
We'll see what the untested new changes that are pushed to Live really are.
Open ATS and let everyone provide feedback, not just people who pre-ordered.

They need to open up ATS to more than the "dedicated group of players...". This means BETA and pre-order people, and it's not a good representation of the player base.
More mid and low level characters need to be involved, IMO, to really score overall balance.

I know one thing that hasn't gotten alot of attention, but the magic resist rates on the live server right now are totally through the damn roof.
I am in the odd position of having 50 defensive magic and 79 elemental magic. Before the patch I could use a combination of fear/blind/nuke to defeat enemies around my level. Given the fact that when casting I am completely undefended, this seemed to be fairly damn risky to me.
Now, after the patch, everything resists my fear spell because the stuff I am trying to fight is higher than my defensive magic skill.
Which brings me to an odd place.
In order to solo, I need to raise my defensive magic skill. In order to raise my defensive magic skill, I need to group.
And honestly, given the way they jacked the crap out of the game today I cannot see my defensive magic ability ever catching up to elemental magic ability. Today was the first time in Ryzom where I played for 5 hours straight and did not get a single level in any ability. I tried teaming with a guild mate to get defensive magic SP's and I ended up dying to a Dangerous Ragus (gives us both 660 XP) in about 3 hits. He hit me for *750* points of damage a whack.
I really hope that by "ironing out the problems" they totally revert all the combat oriented changes except for blind reducing defense and offense to 0.
In my opinion that was the *only* thing wrong with the way the combat system worked (with the obvious exception of link spells not working as advertised in the manual).
Later...

Think about it. Beta and Pre-Order people represent players are more likely to play the game with more efforts. I can't nearly keep up with the leveling some players have shown. Please give "normal" players who are in the lower levels a chance to look at the test server.

What they didnt say was that it will be on Live servers sometime in the middle of 2005 when everyone will be playing EQ2 or WoW.
Just keep paying them till then and MAYBE they will fix this god awful game.

I know this may be a bit premature but does anyone know if theyre going to address and of the combat issues ?..like mob strength...while i was on last night a friend of mine petitioned a gm about just that and the gm said that there would be an adjustment to the lower level mobs soon. Of course then the gm put him on his ignore list, guess they heard alot of that last night.
Sorry should have read the original post closer...last sentence says they will be working on the combat probs.

Just need to wait and see the exact details. Hopefully it's something we can all agree on.

This is great news. I still can't believe they even released the patch in this condition to begin with. The "well tested" part is true, the bugs were reported but the devs didnt fix them, they just shoved it onto the live servers anyway. Fixing ones mistakes does not undo the damage they did to begin with. I just hope they fix the game well enough to intrest those that left yesterday to come back. They were so discusted with the choices the devs made, that I'm not sure they will ever come back.
If the devs pull a stunt like this again, and release massive reworks of an entire game system, thats full of some of the most obvious bugs you can imagine with testing from a hand full of people, I will rid myself if their lack of good judgement. This isnt a threat, just telling it like it is. There is just no excuse for this type of conduct from professional developers. I would expect this from a company that just started up, but this games been in development for over 2 years and they released a patch that is a total rework of the entire game play style without even giving it the testing it needed. Then didnt even fix the things that were wrong with it before releasing it. Sloppy work IMO.
