Is this a another bug, I sure as heck hope not, as Ive heard players got into game this morning and bought thousands of these mats.... Now with servers going down, I guess we'll just have to see when they go back up.
I dont remember this being on test server.
Ive heard rumors of players spending millions of dappers on these mats to powerskill crafting. :/

All the mats are basic mats, not good for selling back to the player base but very good in taking the extreme pressure on harvesters to produce thousands of mats for crafters to level. Instead they can just keep digging to try and keep up with just the decay rates on good quality crafted items.
q250 mats with lvl100 fame is 4888 per mat. 1 stack of 99 costs 483912, so 15 million (the dapper held by just one of the crafters in our guild) can now be used to buy a whopping 3068 q250 mats.
Here's a little better perspective:
That same crafter wants to level 2 handed swords from lvl120 to lvl150. Our estimates are that will take 9000 mats. Cheapest price for q150 mats seems to be 3064 per mat. That 15 million will only provide 4895 q150 mats. This crafter is going to need nearly 28 million dapper to gain those 30 levels in just 1 skill. Armorers that have to level 5 or 6 items will require even more dapper. Most of players' time will still be spent hunting or harvesting for dapper. Dapper which actually has value again because high level crafters can now use it to level their skills again.
Harvesters are still going to be in high demand because the NPCs only stock basic mats. Do you want a lvl100 sword made of basic mats? I know I don't. Harvesters are now freer to sell outside the guild structure because the internal demand for grind mats won't be high but the decay rates are still there so fine/choice/excellent/supreme mats are still going to be in high demand but not so high that harvesters become slaves to the crafters.
During all the beta testing up the the last Open Beta, merchants sold the full range of materials and harvesters were still an important part of the economy. The thing that did marginalize them was that animals dropped high quality materials (not just the named ones but all of them above lvl50). Why harvest when hunting is faster? Hunting drops have been improved (or so it seems) some but still can't compete with the steady flow of quality harvest mats (pre-patch). It looks like the harvest fix patch will make that steady flow even better. All in all, I'd say everyone will benefit from the return to NPCs selling the full mat range.
SUMMARY
- Crafters can level past lvl100 without having to be full time harvesters themselves.
- The number of crafters will increase as it's no longer a requirement to also be a harvester if you want to craft.
- Dapper has value for players above level 100 for things other than sap crystals and tickets
- Harvesters have a wider range of customers now as there will be more crafters than just the handful of guild supported crafters (basically a repeat of #2 but added for emphasis). More customers for harvest mats means harvesters are still a strong driving force.
- Pure fighters/mages can actually buy high level goods using just dapper because dapper again has value to the crafters.
PS...they are still there. Also all merchants sell higher level items. Crafters have some built in competition now as well.

Well cool if it is coming in at least I can now catch up to my fellow guildie crafters. I can rake in huge amounts of money constantly to buy these mats.
I guess I won't even need to complain about harvesting anymore since I was only harvesting for practice mats.

One other point...kind of a personal note:
I hated asking guildmates for gear because I had a hard time supplying them the mats needed for it and because I needed high quality amps (precious commodity among the Zoraï as our amber sources generally are worse than others for elemental stats). I could pay them in dapper but what good was it to them? They already had millions from harvesting to grind crafting. Now I can contribute to their crafting grind by paying dapper for my amps.
I no longer have to feel guilty if I'm the low skill player on a team and causing the weapons to waste away as they can be replaced much easier becuase those precious harvesters aren't just gathering basic/fine grind mats but are gathering the precious mats needed for the "Super Dagger of Awesome Damage." BTW, the names on the weapons/armor do help identify what one is buying but they seem to cheapen the game a bit.

So they basically decided to give up on a player driven economy without telling us. Back to beta because they can't be bothered to spend a fraction of the proper time they needed to on balancing crafting/foraging.
Also probably makes it an easy excuse for them to super nerf forage like they did. Well you only need the good mats from foragers/hunters.
how about they just eliminate basic/fine mats from being foraged/hunted then?
I hope this isn't true, but that is what it is being made to sound like.

I don't see how providing basic mats at NPC's actually does >anything< at all to the much vaunted "player driven" economy.
I can go up to a vendor, buy a crapload of basic mats and then turn them into a suit of armor for several hundred thousand dappers in cost to me. Please explain to me how anyone is going to want to pay me any dapper at all for a suit of basic mats armor, atleast enough to cover my initial investment?
The stuff is there for grinding crafts, that is all. Personally I would rather see the following:
More mats of variable types given from sources. For instance, say I am harvesting some choice motega wood. My skill in harvest right now is 118, the source is 100... it should be possible for me to get many resources of different types from that node during an extraction session. Obviously I will want the choice mats, but I should also get some fine and some basics as well. These mats that I don't intend to use myself for crafting (the choice) or give to someone else to craft with should go to a resources market.
Also, I think resource markets should be specific to a region. As a Tryker I am not too keen on people buying up resources harvested by Trykers to grind Zorai or Matis or Fyros crafts. Us trykers are already >vastly< behind other races in terms of our crafting abilites. If people drain whatever resources we have available then we will never be able to catch up at all.
Anyway, it looks like they are going to let us harvest more mats in an extraction with their emergency patch... this is good. Personally I don't mind having NPC basic mats for sale, the cost is really prohibitve at the higher levels for grinding anyway, its still far better to make friends with harvesters... and hopefulyl after this next patch the harvesters will be able to supply more mats than they could prior to Patch 1.

I agree, there is MUCH more to a material than JUST the Q number. I have found FINE grade mob dropped materials of Q20 that had BETTER stats on them than the SAME mob dropped material (same mob, different difficulty/level) Grade BASIC Q69. Granted the basic would make armor that would work better in a group of level 60 players than the FINE grade would.
Point is...there IS a market for foragers, BUT...as I hear it...the HUGE pressure on us to strip mine the planet, for that is what would have been needed for us to keep up with the melee/mage/crafter world, but we can relax a bit and let the crafters do their job.
Once the patch to the patch comes through refixing foraging...I will Gratefully step back into game with a SILLY grin on my face.
I also got to test a LITTLE bit of the player sale market...I found several earrings on the jeweler in a Tryker noobie town. I did NOT see Q150 items there. It was UNDER Q20 as it should be...but the jeweler was NOT on line, or at least not standing in town WASTING her/his time trying to sell stuff to a player so they could make a profit to put BACK into leveling the skill.
I am rather sure she WAS out in the field quartering or foraging for more materials instead.
THIS alone, the markets, will free up play/level/ just for the HECK of it time for EVERY type of crafter. Free enterprise WORKS in the real world, NOW it will work in Ryzom.
MAJOR Kudos Devs!
