So what is there to do now?

Since I only had time at lunch to patch and log in long enough to spend a few SP, can anyone mention what new activities there are in game now?

Before, other than a few weak missions, the only things that anyone could really do were explore and level.

I never got a chance to really explore; I've roamed a bit around Fyros, and I really wanted to visit Zorai and Matis, but I got into the game too late (thanks to the horrible launch distribution). By the time I'd gotten in, Nevrax had added the insane, hyper-aggro insta-kill mobs to roots.

Exploring isn't an option anymore.

So, I had some fun levelling, in groups and solo, and harvesting. Grouping was difficult, since either I was too far above the people who would group with me, and I was forced to use skills I had no interest in developing, or I was far too low, and my equipment would fall apart as we hunted mobs reasonable for the others.

I find harvesting tedious and boring; I really wanted to craft, but I needed money and mats to fund that skill tree.

Now, from all reports about patch 1, harvesting is dangerous and unrewarding... so I'm probably not going to bother with that skill tree anymore; especially since I wasn't that fond of it to begin with.

And, it seems that the mobs are now so dangerous that the mobs I used to pass by because they offered such piddling amounts of XP will now have a good chance of taking me down unless I'm in a group. As a healer, I'm not sure I'll be able to keep my teammates alive unless we're careful to take on mobs much lower than before - and trust me, the groups I joined weren't into taking on mobs dozens of levels above us... we only wanted those that supplied enough XP to make the time and armour decay worthwhile. What mobs will those be, now?

Levelling for the sake of levelling doesn't appear to be worthwhile anymore.

Now, lacking those things, what else is there to do? Has any story, any true goals been added with this patch? *That* is what makes the game worth playing.

On the Ryzom chat this morning, another player was trying to encourage me, advising me to "wait for patch 2". I hope he was exaggerating, and it won't be that long. Ryzom is an expensive game. I certainly won't PAY to sit and wait for some unknown content to be added at some unknown date.

Others have commented that the launch of an MMO is the wrong time to hop in if you expect everything to be perfect and all content to be there, and they're quite right. Obviously that wasn't a concern for me, if I've been playing this long. My worries aren't for what Nevrax will eventually GIVE... I'm worried now about what they've taken AWAY.

All I really want is something to do, something that has a measurable effect, and doesn't feel like futility.

Exploration in this game has always been about sneaking around and avoiding really mean animals. Before this patch, if you ventured outside your races capital region you had to simply avoid animals. It's the same thing after the patch.

EXPLORING IS ABOUT GETTING STRONG ENOUGH TO WANDER AROUND

with the new additions and cleaner animals even a level 250 character could not survive a simple kincher.

this is truth, this is not bias, and this is not because i was used to the old way....it is simply a matter whether this game is even playable or not

How do you know a level 250 melee coudnt handle a kincher now? Are you aware that the damage you take is scaled between your level and the mobs level? Have you taken out your 250th level melee character and tried out a Kincher? If not then perhaps you shouldnt be brandishing "Facts" that you cant backup.
