You want content, then tell the tales.

People are posting up and down the forum we need more content, im getting bored, what the goal of this game ?

I think most of the people don't truly understand how a game like Ryzom works. This is not Doom 3 or halflife where when you fight to the end of the game you get a congradulations video. This is a dynamic world in which you are part of the story.

What does that mean....well not unlike real life it means you do stuff...then when you meet up with your friends you tell tales of your exploits. When you go home to your wife or parents and they ask you how was your day, as boring as it may have been you usual will come up with a story about what happened to you.

Carry that idea into the game. The reason why most of us play games like ryzom is because we like to escape into a world that is exciting and unique to our real lives. Ryzom is just that...but if you don't carry the stories from the game, it will become boring and uninteresting.

Even with so called content in a game the makers of the game are really only planting the seeds we have to make it interesting. We do this by telling the tale.

If the a group of Goari destroys a town in the game...it is still uninteresting until we all start to discuss what happened, the different perspectives are what make an event like that interesting and exciting, and exciting things are happening every minute inside the game. They could be as simple as finding a vein of high level mats after evading some big mobs to huge events like the destruction of a town.

That is why even if your planning on soloing you should join a guild. This gives you and others an outlet to tell stories of your adventures in Atys.

If everyone you meet in the game told you a story about an exciting event they encountered...wether true or exagerated, there would be no need for outside content. If your playing this game to win, well you stumbled into the wrong type of game.

Everyone needs to pay a little closer attention to whats happening to them in the game, and when they meet up with other people wether friend or stranger need to pass on the story. Not unlike in real life it is a common courtesy to have something interesting to tell when you meet someone, its called conversation and it is what creates content.

So by all means tell the tale...no ones gonna care if its told it well just that it is told. Anything the game designers may insert in the name for content will never take the place of good story.

That is a good start, but I would carry it a step further as well. It is interesting to a certain extent to share what experiences you had when reacting with the game and retelling those stories, but after awhile all of the possible interactions with the game itself will have been exhausted. It is, after all, a static thing, capable of only a limited set of circumstances it can present to the player.

Beyond that however is the virtually unlimited interactions possible among live players. My character, Miy, has certain goals, aspirations, likes, dislikes, even prejudices against certain groups or races. When she interacts with others her reactions will be based on her character, and others will react to her based on theirs.

Just as a small example, Miy believes that the Matis are born to rule over Atys, so her actions ingame reflect that. For now she is observing other warriors and encouraging them because she feels that Matis will not realize its destiny without war with the other races. She hopes that others will here the call to rule as well, and that one day a mighty army will be assembled to return the Matis people to their rightful place.

This is a much more varied, intense and long range interaction, and one that, as escape, I have in the past found tremendously satisfying.

Personally I don't get much out of hearing stories told. I'm much more into experiencing something happening. So while I wait for things to happen for me to experience I'll be out exploring every corner of the Zorai map. :)

a) There is nothing interesting happening in the game, the most exciting thing I encountered were two yubos mating.

b) If I want to make up my own content I go buy beer for $14.95 and gather some friends for a pen and paper RPG session with a good DM.

I like both. I like to read stories, but almost excluslively "in-game" (otherwise it's entirely out of character), and I also like to experience events. I think I'd give up on any semblence of reading any story if I could experience events occasionally. So far I only came in at the tail end of one event, haven't really experienced one yet.

Eschiava, even though my character, Mellodi, is going to loathe your character, Miy, that fateful day that the two of them meet in game, I have to say that, as a player, I cannot agree with you more!

It's always been a bit frustrating for me to play MMORPGs, because there are so rarely RP moments. I chose to play Ryzom because it seemed to offer the most potential for RP of any game yet to come to the market. It's been disappointing to find, once again, a group of wannabe l33tists trying to domineer and direct the game in the direction of power-play. I am hoping that this group will prove to be a very thin layer of fizz that pops and crackles off jumping ship to leave a nice, tasty beverage of RP.

Sorry, feeling a bit bizarre today. What I'm trying to say, for those of you who aren't diggin' my fruity metaphor, is that I'm hoping that the power-levelers come to the full realization soon (as they seem to be doing), that Ryzom is not the game they are looking for, leaving those of us who were drawn to it for its promise of interactive story-telling behind to populate the game. ;)

Oh, btw, Eschiava, what do you feel about Miy being Mellodi's official arch-nemesis? :p

Most people I have met in MMO's are not roleplayers. I used to play AD&D and that is fun, however, in an online game when I say I want "content" I mean I want a new zone to explore, a new creature Ive never seen before to bite my butt and I have to figure out how to defeat it, not merely the whack-a-mob, bigger-kipee-than-I-killed-yesterday, yawn!

I want new neat armor every few levels, not simply to replace the same damn armor I had for the last 50 levels daily because it decayed. I want new spells/actions, not simply blind 1, blind 2, blind 3, blind 4... I want an engaging mission that is different from any other mission, not simply "go kill 1 gingo" "go kill 2 gingos" "go look in the woods and see if there is a gingo."

I swear the latest batch of MMO's gets so focused on graphics and making their engine work they totally drop the ball on game-play and forget to hire a few people that can actually write some engaging content.

Sorry, other players telling me about how they killed a kipee just isnt going to fill the gap when there is nothing new for me to do or achieve.

Again, there's nothing exciting happening in the game because you aren't making it happen. From reading your other posts, I feel safe in saying that you aren't making it happen because you are too focused on maxing out your character's levels, and not at all interested in RP or interactive story-telling.

Alright, then, go do that. And pick up a game like EQ for the power-leveling.

I have been toying with an idea that I thought might help to encourage and grow the RP in SoR, I won't reveal what my idea is just now, but by tomorrow I will have something to announce.

Thanks yy48n19, your post nudged me over the edge to make the decision. (makes a note to herself to ask yy48n19 the origin of her name sometime)

Oh, and I (as a player) would be honored if Mellodi would consider Miy her arch-nemesis. :) I am sure their contacts with one another will be memorable! :D
