some infomation about WOW and EQ2

alot of people seem to be leaving this game or are going to leave because wow and eq2 are around the corner. i have done beta on wow and a friend has on eq2 so i am just posting some points about the games and about ryzom which is worth thinking about before moving.

firstly WOW,
this game is fantastic and well worth playing. you will love it. i do suggest you play it as it rocks. there are some downsides to wow tho.

firstly it is very much a hack and slash game. it is also very easy to lvl. skills are fun but not all that complex. but if you like fast action lvling, killing and loot colecting you are going to love this game. do expect after about 2 months of play to have a high lvl chr and have nothing to do but kill kill kill. if you have played city of heros you will know what this game is going to be like. basicly the same.
wow like coh isnt aimed at long term players it intends for people to play for about 3-6 months then move on but make it so new people will always come to it. if your looking for a mmorpg where you will still be playing in 12months + wow im sorry to say isnt for you (unless your under 12)

and the other big title is of corse EQ2. this game is again very good for what it is. there are ALOT of bugs in it. and due to the graphics expect lag and alot of it im afrade. (saying that same prob in ryzom some times).

eq2 is hard and very good for the extreme gamers. but its very much "old school" fantasy with dragons and kights, wizards and warlocks etc. it is a very slow game , hard to get to high lvl and alot of content is aimed at high lvl. but if you like that style of game go for it.

then you got ryzom.

again this is a slow game . building guilds, contacts, allies is a very strong part of ryzom. trading for items , crafting etc.

ryzom has lots of bugs but all mmorpgs have that. the only diffrence i have found with ryzom over other games is the customer support. how does ryzom do it? if you want to speak to a gm normaly there is one next to you in under 15 mins !! thats unheard of. normaly your expecting a wait of 30 mins to 5 hours.

the other 2 main points worth thinking about with ryzom is the fact that guilds/race wars are going to be big and fun (watch vides if you want to see what the game can do).
the other main point about ryzom is magic/fighting/craft/harvest are not your only skill paths. there is creature training and i have heard of a cosmetics one.

current down side of ryzom is the
1) silly bugs
gms are there in a flash to help you past them tho wich is shocking

2) fact its hard to find the mats you need
think this is going to get a fix in patch 1. also people forget you dont need max stat weps all the time. they are not ment to be easy to get

3)the fact that there is a low pop
i found this but infact its not true. you just cannot chat to all the pop or they dont wanna chat to you. :) people are out there. sometimes you need to look for them and all of a sudden you will find 40+ people in one place

4) fact that much hasnt been put into the game.
isnt that good? i dont wanna do quests if they are bugged or guild wars if they dont work 1/2 the time.

so basicly go try these new games. i am sure you will love wow but will return in about a month mabey 2 . and eq2 if you get past the bugs/lag/fact it needs a high spec and its very old school mmorpg with nice graphics you may just like it.

The one thing I would like to add about EQ2, is that if you didn't like the whole flagging thing in EQ1, then you will hate EQ2 probably. Every 10 levels or so there is a new 'flag' you need to complete before you can advance further in level. Further causing large amounts of people trying to all do the same flags, making overpopulation an issue at the choke points that will occur. And from the sound of it, high levels will have the same general cookie cutter template that you will have between the various classes. Same skill sets between player x,y,z at lvl 50.

wow and eq2 are boring old themes and worlds. just more of the same old same old.

the biggest asset Ryzom has is that it's *different*. the mechanics are like a little bit of a lot of games, but yet it's nothing like any game i've played, and it's not about trolls, ogres and tolkien-ripoff themes.

Well, thanks for all the information.

Just to be sure...and I know this question might sound sarcastic...my apologies in front:

So you are comparing the current state of WoW and EQ2 to the state of Ryzom as it COULD be?

Hmm...interesting approach.

So far I have to say that a lot of the things which would make Ryzom different..are just not integrated at the moment.

The german ingame support is also very good. You have fast response times and a helpful community. On the bad side...I always have the impression that the support is *hanging in the air*. They don't seem to get information from Nevrax at all. Is this also the case with your support?

Wait.... you said we should all play wow... then you say we'll be done with it in 3-6 months? Why in the world would I want to invest in it then?

I left CoH because it had gotten really boring. If I wanted to play another CoH game I'd go back to Coh, and least I had already bought it and don't need to spend 50 bucks on it.

To address some of the..misinformation..

WOW--starts quick..end's long. The beginning levels are quick..but as you get higher they become slow. As with most of Blizzards games. Great game. Very few bugs. Tested from every angle by them.

EQ2--Lag? none at all. Any machine within the last year can play it no prob, graphics quite high. After 1 year..tone down the clutter in the game..and you will be fine. Problem with EQ2 is they are releasing it WAY to early. Another 1-2 months of testing and that game would be platinum.

yes if you have $30 to hand and you want abit of fun wow is a good game.

wow isnt rearly a time investment its more of a tomb rader run around and kill crap game. fun with it tho.

my point was there is no point saying wow is crap and people shoudnt go to it because its untrue. but ryzom has alot of new ideas and has a stronger chance of lasting longer than just a few months.

Under what name did you beta?
Was it just the stress test or closed beta that’s now ended?
I have to ask, did you not play on the PVP RVR server? It sounds like the high end game ended for you at 60 but that’s where it took off for me.

The things you tout as Ryzoms strong points, which incidentally are not in the game and probably won't be before Christmas are already in WoW and functional.

Is is cookie cutter carebear PvP with no equipment loss and no death penalties/xp loss?

In that case I can recommend counterstrike ;) You don't have to level for 60 levels there ...
