Ryzom

Greetings All,
Perhaps some of you read once where I said that I can't afford at this time to have two active MMO accounts, and that I would have to make a choice between Ryzom and Lineage 2. For the longest time I was of two minds over this decision, and evan leaning toward Lineage 2 for awhile.

But after reading a few things on this site, and comparing it to what I read about L2 (and what I already know of L2) I have come back to the Ryzom side. At the end of the day, it is my L2 account that I cancelled, and Ryzom that I will continue to explore.

A few things that helped to influence my decision:

My playstyle is casual, and due to r/l committments I can't play as often as many people, in a power gaming environment I will be left badly behind. I remember from the interview that was posted here, the comparison was made to a comet. Those who play a lot will be at the nucleus of the comet, and those that play less will make up the tail. But even those in the tail are still part of the coment and will have an opportunity to participate in the story of Ryzom. I like that!

One thing that has intrigued the heck out of me is some of the speculation that has taken place about the Ryzom story. Who are the homins? What is Atys? The Kami? The Karavan? Okay, I love a mystery, so, you hooked me!

The promises of the future, racial tensions, battles for dominion, battles over outposts, a story that has no set outcome, but that will be molded by ingame events. How can that not attract someone like me?

Still, I guess I don't have the time or motivation to be a diehard devotee of any game. I pay my money each month for entertainment. I will definitely give Ryzom a chance, but as some others seem to have expressed, I won't wait forever on promises.

For now though, I will happily wait!

Glad that you are waiting with us.

Glad to see you staying on and giving Ryzom a chance. Due to r/l reasons I too am a casual gamer and my playing time is somewhat limited compared to the "standard" playing time many of these online games are designed around.

Over the last 2 years I've even come to the conclusion that I'll be playing most games to about the mid level; I won't ever have time to really achieve maxed out characters and see the "end game". That's fine with me though since each new game brings new experiences, new friends, and lots of entertainment.

You won't see me in EQ2 no matter how good a game it is because it's designed to be a huge time sink like FFXI. Huge time sinks are good for business but not very workable for casual gamers.

I think Ryzom is well suited to the casual gamer, much like Horizons was, and yes you don't have to stick around forever when the frustrations build up and the fun stops. (yeah, that's a Horizon's broken promises, lagging, bug filled reference)

I hope that Ryzom continues to keep my interest and again, I'm glad to see you staying.

Ugh Lineage 2. What a dog of a game. If it wasn't the players' corrpution, greed, and selfishness that ruined the game, it would be NCsofts inability to monitor any of its products. I think they forgot that people were actually paying their money for it.

I cancelled my L2 and never looked back. Bleh.

Sorry. Uh, glad you're with us! I too am excited about the storyline content of Ryzom; that's about the only thing about it that sets it above random-clone-MMO for me. This also means that if the storyline isn't in within a month or two I'm going to throw up my hands in disgust and move on to the next game. Ryzom's pretty good though, and the devs respond a lot more quickly to issues than I've seen in other games. Also love the CSR's... in FFXI all we had was a towering Wall of Silence to talk to.

Yeah, I did some reading on L2, I liked CoH. I figured I'd take the chance on a game w/o a free trial. F*ck man, I'm out $70.00 us. I played the game for all of 2 days, and cancelled the worthless piece of &*%^&*% I made two different chars in two different cities, and couldn't even get either one of them to 4th level, due to all the PKers. People seem to like sitting around and just assassinating new players, the GMs do nothing, except tell the player you've complained, so they can laugh at you even harder. If any of the high levels try to fight back for the nubes, a couple dozen more PKers show up and PK them.
I don't see how you could even consider L2, but of course I did.
I could find almost nothing to indicate the level of PKing available in the game, next time I try a new game, I won't pay until I get a chance to play.

The only reason I made it so ling in L2 was that I was in since open beta. At that time there wasn't a PK problem, and by the time it developed I was long gone from the newbie zones.

The other reason I stuck around is that I was in an excellent RP guild on the Lionna server. To me, great RP can cover a multitude of other shortcomings!

I played L2 in beta, the ultimate MMORPG grind game. It took forever to get to level 20. I did like the short skirts on the female avatars though
