Avoid source killing?

Ok, I witnessed some insane dispute between foragers some day ago about killing sources or not and felt a little guilty.
Problem:
I am a lvl 120 desert forager, I prospect 4 sources atm. If I constantly think about not to kill a source, Ill lower my efficiency to 50% or so. Because My source times are 60 sec. If I then see a source nearing death and sit down to avoid it to die, Ill have to wait the rest of that 60 sec. before grabbing the other sources I prospected. I wont do that! Ill loose very much on doing so.
Thats why I rather forage one source to death and continue with some of the other 3 available sources rather than wait 1 min every time, since other prospected sources dissapear if left idle.
Is there a way to "stop" foraging and "take all" when there still is source time left on the current source?
Id love to let my sources live if I can take the mats before it dies and continue with the next source..
Is there a way?

I too would like this option, as at current i cannot harvest mats beyond q 50, so why would i want to keep harvesting once the mat reachs that cap, its not like i can get above 1 mat per time anyway

I usually just drop the resources if it's going to kill the source and immediately prospect, most of the time there's a new source popping at the exact same spot... while the old one is still present.
60 seconds and harvesting only 4? I use 45 seconds and I already get 4

I get 7 mats as best, but I prospect forth 4 sources.

I dont think you're going to decrease your effeciency if you stop killing your sources. Killing them runs the risk of depleting the area which means time wasted going to the next spot.
So apart from it being a bit rude to deplete areas others are harvesting I don't think it's in your own best interest. Pay attention to the source modes and there shouldn't be a need to deplete areas to harvest quickly.

Im not sure, I havent done much research in harvesting according to source modes though, I just know my prospect action takes 200 focus
Not much space to fool around before starting extraction.
Im one of the highest lvl foragers in my guild, I supply mats to all crafters that has most areas covered meaning ANY mats I get is useful. Thats why depleted areas isnt an issue, because theyll come back and Ill just harvest some ambers or whatever in the meantime, cause our jewlerers need them and so on. All mats I get is good, except mission mats then.. basic/fine is allright to skill with as a crafter..

You can get 2x mats from lvl 20. If you are extracting q50 mats you must be lvl 30+ then ? Perhaps you should review the actions you use and the others that are available ?

Rather than lowering efficiency, you could raise it quite easily. If any mat is useful to you, why prospect 4 sources on long timers, with a relatively high focus cost for doing so ? Just because you have many actions available doesnt mean to say that you have to use them all every time. I have numerous "hands" bars with different harvesting actions, and i choose the actions i use depending on the circumstances, the results that i want and yes, also taking efficiency into consideration. Depleting a source or an area is never really a good idea if it can be avoided.
Currently, you can only get the mats (and the xp) at the end of the extraction period of the source that you are working on.

I adjust my forage to 4 units at forest 45 secs and just keep it at that, however using the care plans means that I only kill 1 in 25 sources and thats usually to it expiring out of my control.
Running around exhausting sources in the busy main forage areas is basically just anti-social behaviour. This is what gets ppl upset, especially those that forage to craft as it prevents them getting to items they really need.

Using Aggresive 334 and 45" source time.
Never let the source die......
on a mode one I get 4 mats a time, on other modes I will stop harvesting before the life bar reaches 50%
I have notices that the source content - can be effected by use of Terrain Spec.... however I still find that after extracting 30ish +/-5 the source always goes to exhausted.
Is this avoidable?

The action 'Preservation' stops the life timer when it's active, it also enhances the life, making it expire more slowly after you've used it and go back to extracting.
You can't preserve and extract at the same time, so you use it by starting the extraction normally and then switch to preservation when needed, then you switch back to extraction.
The action 'Ground stability' works the same way, but affects the timer for explosions/toxic clouds instead.
Stability and Preservation can be combined in the same action and they don't use too much focus. If you want to harvest as much as you can without exhausting the source you simply switch to preservation just before the life expires. (Same thing if you don't want to take damage from an explosion.)
So far it seems noone but me (Of the people i've asked) uses preservation hehe, but it's a skill that gives me pretty much endless supplies as long as noone else has exhausted the source.
