Boards… Useful info or fear bandwagon

I started coming to the Boards about a week ago and succumbed to the fear bandwagon caused by the decay rate posts. I had a few days of panic thinking that I was in for a lot of frustration when I reach mainland. How was I going to afford armor if it wears out within a few hours and was armor crafting going to be a useless skill? And I won’t go into other posts that made it sound like this game is going down to hell in a hand basket. All very scary stuff for a newbie...

I noticed that, for a few days, I didn’t want to play my characters as much because in the back of my mind I figured, what’s the point.

Well the point is… to have fun!!!

While I’m sure that many concerns raised are valid ones, I’ve decided to concentrate on the positive and informative posts. The Wish List at the top of the Board seem to be a great place for us to explain what can and should be improved in the game.

I got caught up in wagging my finger and telling Nevrax (and Cerest as its liaison officer) that they shouldn’t keep us in the dark and that they need to be accountable to us, the customers. The problem with that is that Nevrax, via Cerest, has been accountable to us and has already fixed many problems. It seems to me that Cerest is very much on the ball in passing on our criticism to the right people. All that is needed is a little patience from our part, and a little faith.

In a way, it’s exciting to be part of this game at its infancy level. Yes, there will be some growing pains, but the vision described in the Interview with the Dev was very inspiring. I think we’re in for a great ride if we work together as players but also with the developers of the game. It doesn’t have to be an “us against them” attitude.

I think you've got to take the bad with the good man. Sometimes I get angry with people over it too and tell them to STFU, but in the grand scheme of things it's much better I think to get all thoughts and emotions on the table and then deal with them from there than leave stuff undiscussed. Forums give you the best of both worlds plus a lot of crap to sort through. If you want raw thoughts and emotions, check the forums. If you want some quality control on rumors, check with your ingame network of friends.
