I'm level 18 Mage, I'm not crazy about it so I went for Fighter, I'm happier, but alot of the Mage guys are just as happy, personal pref. I guess.
You ask like minded people to join your guild in a conversation option, your guild will get a forum (if there is no space in the name eg. **** **** Guild, I dont know why either, go figure) also there is a guild chat option on screen during play and you can hang out together while killing stuff.
Gameplay is very like SWG, you buy attack options and in a fight, click on them to perform the attack.
The whole bloody planet is a dungeon

The loot is mostly materials for crafters, but also fetches a pretty penny in the market, you can then buy better stuff, or join a guild and get your crafter to make you some uber stuff. The system is very weighted to Guild play.
You see all the players, I'm not sure I understand that question are you
referring to FF XI, with all the different servers?

Hmm, well. To note, I have never played any of those three mentioned MMORPG's, save for EQ which I played very little of (and have no desire to play more).
I like Ryzom stylistically and for the proposed story more than anything. It is those things that drew me to AC2, which they have done nothing with since release. Guilds are not required to play, but as in any MMORPG, they certainly enhance the experience should you find the guild you want. Fighting is much like EQ, where you engage a foe to auto-attack and use your abilities as they become available. Fighting abilities can get fairly complex due to the many methods you can use to trigger them (attack after dodge/parry/critical, stamina use, health use, etc.).
Dungeons don't exist right now, and aren't really necessary at the moment. They'll be here eventually, but until then there's plenty of hunting to be had above-ground. I haven't visited the Prime Roots yet (underground high level area), but it's a pretty interesting place I hear.
We get raided on occasion by Kitin, which requires as many people as we can pull together as fighting off 200+ Kitin at once is no easy deal. Multiple guilds typically participate in these ventures. And lest you be leery, yes it is entirely possible to participate in these raids without horrendous lag. We've been raided once thus far already over on the Matis mainland, and there are reports on the boards of how surprised people were that it ran so well.
There are bosses out and about, but they're typically related to the events that Nevrax is running. They seem to be pretty good about running little stuff to keep us interested while they're busy patching up bugs and the like. Future looks pretty good right now.

The thing about mobs in this game, is that they come in packs/herds/groups. There's almost always a whole lot of them at a time, and a lot of them social aggro. If you're having trouble finding mobs, you're not moving. And in Prime Roots (200+ skill area, by the way. 250 skill is cap), you don't want to be standing still unless you enjoy punishment. Nowhere am I aware of the capability to spawn mobs via player actions. The things respawn a bit too fast in my opinion anyway. Of course, quests don't exist in-game yet. We have tasks (kill x mob for y money), but nothing interesting.
Guild missions are coming, quests are coming, storyline is coming. Ryzom isn't a place I suggest a full guild to transfer to just yet. Stick with AO, but if you want to test the waters and see what we have, feel free. See what you think about the world before you take an entire guild along for the ride. Patch 1 should be here within a week or two, and that will help greatly on things that have been needed. If you're curious, there is a Sticky up top with a list of what is coming in Patch 1 and Patch 2.

You est. guilds by inviting ppl into your guild as a convo. option. The game is different to AO as you describe it. There are no dungeons, the planet is one big mob and the loot is materials for crafters to make you better weapons and armour. Alot of the critters are HUGE, Dino-size, could call them bosses, but they dont work as end of level things.
The premise of the story is....
There are a number of diff. races, you join one. You play that character and become stronger, ideally you join/create a guild. The guilds then get to attack outposts and become famous, as the fame increases you may be able to negotaite with the outpost and get them to join you without a fight.
There are also certain tension between the races and tribes that you have to deal with.

Concerning Boss mobs, there are hundreds in Ryzom, who drops special choice, excellent & supreme materials.
You need to explore a bit to find these ..

I don't compare this game to anything else. It to me feels brand new and different to all other mmorpgs out there. I love the atmosphere, the people around me are great and it's a lot of fun.
The atmosphere of the game is hard to capture in a screenshot but I love the following
screenshot because it manages to capture some of what I love about ryzom. The way that everything takes on a life of it's own, even the trees sway wildly in the wind. The sun doesn't just shine it BLAZES down on you.
