*träum*What do you think of the competition?
We do not fear it, we do not propose the same thing. We do not exploit a licence or we don't make a traditional universe with traditional elements. In fact we have four really different civilizations, events & true game campaigns to come as in a tabletop role play . Finally in Ryzom you can develop a true personality.
Can you speak to us about the whole beginning of Ryzom?
At the beginning we were two but there was divergence. I prefered to keep my passion and be proud at seventy years old of what I've made. Then the team increased and we plunged ourselves into our passion in spite of the gossips due to this split. Finally "the blade sharpened " and the team grew up to about sixty people. Our goal isn't to beat WoW which adress to a different community, younger, which wants speed, more like the "theme park" kind whereas we go further, we create a game for true mmorpg's lovers.
Speaking about the big mammoths, what do you think of the voices as in Everquest II?
The budget of the voices d'EqII would be equivalent to the Nevrax budget + Ryzom but its a tempting element. In fact it's a "would Be nice" feature but the ratio costs/pleasure of additional play is not so good .
You spoke about angels and demons at the Gameone interview, can we know some more?
It's coming indeed but not immediately as much elements which arrives gradually. The conflict Kami karavan will intensify, there will be a true scission with mass organized combat. But it will not be so black and white, the players will be able to play a double game, spy, to assemble plots, to interact in a true political system.
Speaking about politics, what about main factions and famous Npc's?
The political systems of various civilizations are quite different even if they are pyramidal in the end. For the moment the players are at the bottom of the ladder but once they will know the world better they will get more important and will replace some npc's factions. Of course famous npc's as king Matis will remain played by Gm's because in some rpg's, like"call of Cthulhu" in particular, some important events occur out of the sight of the players. For the moment the king matis is elsewhere occupied for example. Finally the players, guilds more exactly, will be able to make their own events which will have an influence on the ongoing story, for the moment Nevrax has only provided the major events of the game.
All that seems very good but what about casual gamers?
They are not forgotten, one can compare the game with a comet, those which play much will be very implied, that is to say the front of the comet, and those which play less will be nevertheless, but more in the tail of comet. They will be able to take part in defense facing the kittins, to choose a personality and choices but will have less influence on the Ryzom universe.
You speak much about choices in Ryzom, is choice a very important concept for the player?
Yes, it is necessary to choose between the kamis and the karavan, or to remain neutral . Even later there will be choices with respect to new kittins and then Jena will come into play later. In fact, imagine the homin as a chrysallide which can evolve into other things, kami, karavan, other, who knows?
Since we speak about the future, what can we expect? Will we finally discover the third dimension with the jump?
Yes the jump is envisaged, it's not integrated yet to secure use of exploits but gradually we reduce the possibilities of cheating and the jump thus will arrive. For the innovations there is also taming (pets) which is envisaged but it will be more than that. Taming adult animals or taming the small ones will be differentiated then it will be necessary to learn how to teach the animals so that it becomes more than a pet, to have new mountings for example. There is of course the cosmetic branch which was announced. In a less visible kind we await much the system of rumour and "gossips".
And other 3D elements, like water?
Sub aquatic life is envisaged but we do not want to limit the player to follow a preset way, we want a whole freedom of movement, which take time to us but that will also arrive with underwater cities. Later it will be also possible to fly but also to explore the canopy above.
If you must speak about Nevrax with respect to the other actors of the mmorpg scene?
Nevrax is entering the market, we do not have notoriety thus we have space to be creative and original, we want more than plays videos, we have a longer-term step. there was first arcade, then the games against a small A.I., then Mutiplayer, the muds, the mmorpgs and finally we try to create a new experiment, with a more social step.
