hi,
everybody is talking about how ryzom's graphics are superb... etc
so far i played a fyros and i'm unimpressed (desert everywhere, rather drab, the jungo's heads are very triangular looking etc...)
i'm i missing something? all the graphic settings are on 'high', rez is 1024x768.
is the game looking better on a recent 3D card? i have a ti4200 (128Mo)

Depends on each person's previous game experience I guess... If they come from stuff like DAOC without SI/TOA they'll find it great... if they come from SWG they'll be a bit less impressed. Also, the Fyros land isnt the most gorgeous of all, Trykerland has much more visuals, Matisland as well. I find Zorai/Fyros to be the most basic ones.

I found Ryzom's 'Normal' video settings to be quite scaled down.
Like Exelsiar said, turn up micro vegetation to 100%, it makes all the difference. Also try playing a bit with landscape detail, i found that increasing some sliders (Not just in landscape detail) just a tad made a big difference overall without impacting performance too much.
Experiment a bit
Oh, and even though Ryzom keeps telling you that you have to restart to activate the changes, that's hardly ever the case. Most changes are instant (At least in Direct3D mode).
Edit: I just realized that you already had all settings on 'High', i would still check the settings in-game to see if something can be done. Deserts aren't too diverse visually in real life either though so maybe it's just the area that's uninpressive.
I've only seen the Zoraï jungle so far and i find it stunning most seasons (Winter isn't as impressive for obvious reasons.).

Also it should be noted that the maximum graphic settings on a Radeon 9600 and a Radeon 9800 Pro are very different in quality. Something i noticed when i played ryzom in school. Damn the graphic is soo much better on their graphic cards.

The graphics get better with higher quality graphics cards. The nvidia ti4200 is quite an old card these days, try and see it on a later nvidia card such as the 5900 or the new 6800's and you will a major difference.

sounds logical... i'll give it a try.
any model advice on a roughly 100-150 nvidia card ?
(for mmorpg only, don't care about action stuff
there's a lot of brands using nvidia chipset it's confusing

Actually MMORPG's tend to use more powerful vidcards... in FPS games you don't have to display characters which have all different armors / weapons: that buffs up the texture usage quite a fair bit in comparison to FPS where a unique skin over the model is well enough.
Then you have the probability of having tons of things displayed at the same time: if 10 casters are working on their spells, fighting a mob or a group of mobs, with tanks... so you have spell effects, animations for all the characters and mobs, the texture part, etc...
MMORPG's arent exactly 'light' on vidcard specs, FPS are lighter

Make sure you get a card with full hardware DirectX 9 support, most newer games will look much prettier with a card that can take advantage of DX9 effects properly.
I have an ATI Radeon 9800Pro myself, Ryzom looks delicious and things run quite smoothly unless i'm in a village.
