I'm glad someone posted this
I'm struggling too, and (sorry I know everyone always says this
) Ryzom is the only game showing the problem. I use a Razer Copperhead, and have already reduced the polling rate - which is pretty annoying, since the polling rate is one of the main features of the mouse
heh. I've already lowered the "rate" in Ryzom as low as it will go, and have tried various "acceleration" settings too (also ingame, I have no acceleration in Windows), and these changes do not remove the problem.
Could I ask you hawam/Sash - do you use both mouse buttons to move around the world and rotate the camera at the same time? I always tend to do this, and it seems to make the mouse turn problem worse. Here's something to try as an example:
Use the mouse buttons as normal, run around and try to look at the same time. If you get the "lag/twitching", then switch to walking/turning with the WASD or arrow keys, and use
only the left button to rotate the camera. Does this remove the problem for you? It seems to for me, but is nowhere near as comfortable as using the LMB/RMB combo.
In my opinion, mouse control really needs an overhaul. Here are a few things I've noticed, that make the game very awkward for me to play.
- The cursor is still active when moving/looking with LMB+RMB. You can see mobs and NPCs being highlighted, and windows sometimes gain focus, breaking navigation completely. The cursor should be inactive when LMB+RMB navigating, not just hidden like it is now.
- The "turn left/strafe left" and "turn right/strafe right" keys completely reverse their actions when comparing navigation with KB and navigation with LMB+RMB. If I walk forward with W, turn left does indeed turn and strafe left does indeed strafe. Switching to LMB+RMB navigation and trying those same keys - turn left strafes instead, and strafe left turns instead. Wha??!!? This is confusing as hell, and I see no real purpose or reason for it.
- When using LMB/RMB navigation, Ryzom suffers horribly from "sticky mouse button" syndrome. The number of times I've released both buttons, and have either been stuck running forwards and/or stuck rotating the camera - well, I've lost count, and I've only been playing again for a week or so The mouse buttons are not being released, probably because of point 1 - the cursor is still active, it moves focus to a chat window or something, and the run/look function is stuck on. I've written code myself that behaved like this - it's a common problem when writing your own "mouse capture" style code, and it also easily fixable.
I'd love to see this fixed - trying to react in a fight situation to get aggro off healers almost has me chewing me keyboard in frustration
I try to turn even just 90 degrees and run at the same time, and instead I turn 1740 degrees (in a tenth of a second) and run into the nearest wall
hehe
