We are proud to announce the release of Patch 1.6.0 for our MMORPG Ryzom this Monday October 12th!

The biggest change in this patch is that we have extended the ingame web system.
We have now the opportunity to create web applications that can not only be used in game, but also out of game. To demonstrate the concept, the mail system has been redone and there is a small application for taking notes. Now you can read and write mail both out of game and ingame (SHIFT+W). This is just the begining, and we are planning to add new web applications in the future. To help us do this, we would like to invite players that have PHP knowledge to join our new volunteer team of PHP web developers.

We have also modified the graphical design of the user interface to make it more modern and pleasant. Moreover, we have introduced a new font which is easier to read, can handle many more characters, and thus allows you to write in other languages.

Seven new tatoos for each race and gender (56 tatoos in total) have been added, but beware -- only the really wealthy can afford to wear them.

A lot of work has also been done behind the scenes on the event tools to allow the event team to cook up some even more advanced and interesting events.

All of the "boss mobs" (with the exception of some special ones like Bodokin, Shooketh, etc) will now appear in several different locations ! These new spawn-locations have been added but we'll leave them for you to find ;) We also took advantage of this change in gameplay to clean up the code and make it more easily scalable...

For more details on the contents of the new patch 1.6.0 please click here.

We can already tell you that the next patch (1.7.0) will focus on new content for higher level players, so prepare yourself well before then!

Release note

  • Added new tatoos
  • New interface for web applications (SHIFT+W)
  • New user interface design, reticle and font
  • New tools for the event team
  • Window size wasn't set to 1024x768 when reselecting a character
  • When renaming a landmark, all of the characters of the original name are selected, and not just the first six.
  • Fixed some bugs in some missions
  • Fixed a small zoom problem in cosmetic window
  • Fixed some exploits
  • Fixed bad copy pasting when using unicode characters
  • Changed the keyboard management to handle more complex key combos and chat in more languages
Patch 1.6.1 Hot Fix:

This patch fixes a number of small and bothering issues reported by players with the patch 1.6.0.
  • Print Screen key doesn't "work". If you want to take a screenshot, you can use the Ryzom shortcuts that will save the screenshot in the Ryzom directory (C:\Program Files\Ryzom by default)
CTRL+F10 will save a screenshot in JPEG format
ALT+F10 will save a screenshot in PNG format
SHIFT+F10 will save a screenshot in TGA format
  • If you press SHIFT+ALT, it'll switch to the different keyboard layouts you have installed. It's the default Windows behavior and will give the possibility for some foreign countries to write in their own language.
  • Fixed the wrong icons (the cross) on the old mail/forum interface
  • Fixed the bug that hides the UI when pressing the numpad 0 key to see behind you
  • ALT-F4 now display the exit windows instead of instantly closing Ryzom
  • Right clicking to open the popup menu, and then pressing SHIFT or CTRL to move all or on item in the inventory doesn't close the popup menu anymore
  • Improve stats bars to be more readable
  • Added the possibility to assign SHIFT, CTRL and ALT to an action
  • Added a button to minimize/restore the web page (small triangle on top left window)
  • Change the reticle to make it better when digging
  • Fixed the missing separator in the inventory page in icon mode
  • Fixed the top and bottom borders of [friend] and [ignore] buttons on chat window
  • On the login page, fixed the password "*****" top cutoff
  • In German, fixed a text that was too long and made a button be out of the screen when you looted a mob

  • Moving boss mobs
Hallelujah, it's almost like you're listening. :o Hope it really works!
  • Added new tatoos
I get the idea of a dapper sink, but this is a bit of a dapper black hole isn't it? :P I mean, do I really want to pay millions for this skin head in baggy trousers to do some face painting? I just don't know. ;)

Seems like it would be nice if some real work was done on the economy system instead of this silly wheel and few fancy tattoos. Kind of like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted...
  • New interface for web applications (SHIFT+W)
Sounds a great idea. Why don't you tie in mission literature to this system? (If that hasn't already been suggested) That way the players could help out with typos, grammer, translations, etc? Maybe even help write some new ones?

The only thing w/ this volunteer stuff is, I'm just left wondering what we're paying you for? May as well of made the game Open Source. :p

Can you import our old mail in to the new system?
  • New user interface design, reticle and font
Looks pretty, reticle is lovely, but wtf batman, no '&' sign still?
  • New tools for the event team
Can't wait.

Overall, pretty nice, but with a few trademark cockups. =)

Read/write mail in and out of game sounds great. I just hope tere is a notification system when new mail is waiting to be read.

Now we just need a Ryzom iPhone app that allows players to chat to with other in-game players from their phone. :D
