Attempting to modify or create a healing or nuking spell will not work, then CTD if I am holding a pick at the time I attempt to do so. There is no problem if I am holding a crafting tool or weapon.

I'm not fond of the new greying-out scheme, but I ought to be able to edit spells no matter what I am holding.
