love the game. the skills rock. but well the maps are small
there are not many places to go. a few towns which are all the same and thats about it.
no places of intrest. nothing like that at all.
you cannot get lost for hours . a few months down the line when we can travel more easly it wont take long to just run accross the map of ryozom
the prime roots where alot smaller than i was expecting and they are empty of intresting points.
but this seems to be the trend of mmorpgs to date.
look back at ac1 eq and you are in a world about 1x the size of ryzom.
now you have games like sor swg wow coh etc and all of a sudden its small zones with not much in them.
anyone else getting the feeling that the world of ryzom is not that big. what is it about 20km accross? takes what 10mins to run 1k . so your looking at what 2-3 hours to explore the whole map at later levels?
fantasitc looking world but does this mean there is too much dev time making new zones?
am i missing something?

To be fair, CoH's zones are pretty well-sized for the setting, and they had just the right mix between size and population density. Ryzom feels big enough to me right now, but if it was more populated I think it might be another matter.

Maybe it's because I'm lower level ( I haven't broken lvl50 in any skills, I'm trying them all out), but I haven't even left the general area of my capital city. I went exploring early in my character's life only to discover the lands were filled with agroing mobs that were to tough for me to fight so I decided to stay close to home and I really don't group that much, but then you don't see many crafter/ forager groups anyway, atleats I don't, and even only being able to look out over the horizon the lands surrounding Pyr look pretty wide open to me.

later on more zones and dungeons will be added, and if they can keep to their time-table you will have a whole new planet to explore in about a year, and another one a few years after that

Speaking of new planets.. Does anyone know how that's going to work? Are planets going to become places you can travel between? Like, could I leave Atys, go to a different planet, and then return to Atys?
If they're thinking that "big" with this game, then.. wow... Cannot wait to see what the future brings.

Sounds to me like you are on the Matis newb land. I found that area to be cramped. Fyros newbland is a bit bigger, Mainland is HUGE. Pyr city is HUGE, I actually had to ask where the trainers where and use the map to find it.
There is ALOT of space in this game. If the other mainland area are as large as Pyr and surrounding areas...this game is already bigger than EQ was when I left (just after Loy release).
I am an explorer player type, then crafter, and begrudgingly fighter/mage but only when I HAVE to. So I tend to look around, explore the landscape of a game. And this game has ALOT to see.
Never judge a game by its newbie area.
Try the Fyros city, it takes more than a few minutes to explore that city.

i don't have any information on that other than that you can either make a new character, take over your old one, or perhaps cna play as your child

Actually, last time I checked:
* You had to purchase "Ryzom 2" ie brand new $50 game.
* You could continue to play as your own character - or as you said, you could create a new one. Perhaps simply to explore "newb" zones on the new planet.
* Playing as your child has nothing to do with another planet, and completely to do with whether or not the developers ever finish that part of the game.
* This was not in 1 year, this was in 2 years. Every 6 months there was supposed to be a big update (ie: Patch 1, Patch 2, etc. Seems we're getting those a bit early, no?)
* With "Ryzom 2" there might be new playable races. Of course, going to a new planet would be rather indicative, no?

I think you're off. There were supposed to be monthly content updates, with BIG updates every 6 months. This patch one/two are just the montly updates. I haven't heard them talk about anything that we would have to purchase over time, altough maybe I missed it, we just have to keep paying the subscription fees.

Okay... so, would it be safe to think of the addition of each new planet as an expansion pack? That would make sense, given the amount of content a whole new planet implies.
But I still wonder if inter-planetary travel will be possible. Kinda like how you can go from Rubi-Ka to the Shadowlands and back in AO - The Shadowlands are completely separate from Rubi-Ka, but you can travel between them.
Cerest? Anyone? Anyone?
