Ryzom

For ages, we had been told that the universe chat channel is strickly for asking questions and help. But ever since I started playing Ryzom, at least 80% of all chat in there are just small talks, jokes, general stuffs and the likes. When someone asks for help, he/she generaly receives an answer. But because of the chat traffic in it, the answer is sometimes not spotable right away for someone who has the same problem and is looking for similar chat in the Universe channel.

I rarely open the Universe chat because of this. When I open it, I am hoping to find people asking for help (getting an answer, teaming up, healing, ...). I usually close that chat after 5 min (when I get saturated with non-help chat).

Weren't there supposed to be rules to be applied to limit the chit-chat in that channel ?

Wouldn't it be simpler to have that Universe chat specifically for general chat AND create a new one called "Help" dedicated to requesting help of any kind ?

People used to talk in Universe chat will continue doing it if it doesn't change its name but if a player sees a new tab called "Help" he will go there asking/looking for help.

Uhm, you did notice the new /supportChannel command, in the last patch, didn´t you?
Which will open a new "Help Channel" for you, if you need it...

That was my first thought but I didn't feel like wasting my breath given the track record of the OP.

I get what the OP is going for, but the last thing I would like to see is a general chat that is the "default" channel that shows up when you log in.

Ryzom is special because it lacks a lot of that "common" chatter in the chat. I would hate to allow it.

On the other hand, the chat has been going downhill pretty steadily since this last takeover, and I can't log in without at least one or two people cursing, using off-topic speech, or just (of course) mentioning WoW.

Yeh, so screw it. The chat is already not what it used to be! hehe

I'll have to try that out, since I'd like to see HOW it works.
It would be nice if it was a channel just like Universe. There's a LOT of chat channels, but I understand the need for it. Ryzom's a friendly place, and we need to be able to chat.

I also wish the Kami/Karavan channel could be included with the user channel that shows all other channels (except currently Kami/Karavan channel)

Do you mean the /supportChat command?
That connects you to the CeB support chat main hall. So this isn't really a solution to the OPs request.

When it started, Uni was just for help chat and it was pretty strictly enforced. Many folks got rather upset about the enforcement in fact. Now that this place is trying to come back, it doesn't make much sense to alienate folks by restricting a common channel that can be used to show there is life in the game.. How many times have you logged on, not seen any chat anywhere and no-one in region, and felt the place was empty? Was it empty, probably not... but hard to tell otherwise.

I think there needs to be a common chat channel, if for no other reason than to see the place isn't dead. At least until the population comes back up on a consistent level.

^^ Much agreement. Though the content of uni chat often does my head in, at least it shows signs of life.

Two dedicated channels however would keep everyone happy.
