Imagine, Ryzom on a gameframe ...

Just imagine how bigger Ryzom would be if it was developed for a gameframe ...

Since I work at IBM, that's where I learned about the existance of gameframe.

Think of a game as one hudge game server handling 10-100 more gameplay transactions then a normal server, more players, faster, with more entities living in the game, more complex worlds, more worlds, no longer any needs to have 10 different servers (just one big one), ... All this, on a mainframe !

LOL, just tossing this idea to generate discussions. I know it will never happen but it does open new possibilities ...

It doesn't matter how great the mainframe or server is, if the game is designed and changed to suit the new hardware. AI would need to be improved...however we can all dream of such a life for Ryzom. Wonder how much money is currently backing it.

On another note, i know of another MMO that isnt marketing their game, yet has thousands waiting on its arrrival. Maybe ryzom needs to create buzz in a different way, maybe another topic of discussion.

Gameframe - what happens if you let the marketing ninjas loose on a server cluster. It's a fairly standard cell-based cluster with some fancy middleware that may, or may not, be any good.

Ryzom already runs on a linux cluster - this is no different really unless you are a cell-cpu evangelist, or determined to re-write your app to take advantage of the middleware.

I don't think more server hardware or new middleware is really what ryzom needs. Cash investment needs to go into the content development, rather than odd projects.

In short: don't always buy the hype, even if it's the company you work for.
