The fastest and most reliable solution to this problem is to reinstall the game from the
latest installer as this will also solve a number of possible future problems as well.

Also, if your using vista, this can occur if you installed to the default location.
If you have this problem under vista, ensure you run as administrator to finish the patching process. Right click on your shortcut, or on client_ryzom_rd.exe and "run as administrator".

Had the same problem, but "accidently" right clicked on...
client_background_downloader_rd.exe
and ran as admin...
It patched things right up and was able to get Ryzom up and going on me travel laptop in no time at all. Was on a Vista machine, now to play around with the graphic settings to get it running smooth again.
