played swg for a long time
combat is simular, but you can edit and crete your own skills
Community is good, smaller than swg but less uber leet powergamers and more people willing to help
Communication is easyer with the same channels as swg, and an added global "regioN" chat

I played SWG from its launch to Ryzom's release. Though I cannot fault SWG for its framework, Ryzom's player base and customer service is better by leaps and bounds. SWG's content was non-existent/shoddy compared to what they are supposed to patch into the game in the next month or two. As a former SWG player, one of the biggest draws of the game is the fact that their is no profession that everyone and their mom is doing some dry boring "quest" for, and once obtained, do more dry boring grinding to the point of being overpowered. (Sad that SWG made me hate Jedis.)
Far as the teaming aspect goes, I suggest finding yourself a guild soon as you get off of the newbie island, since it seems that players have all fallen into guild cliques, and it makes grouping a hell of a lot easier.
But yeah, take it from a grizzled SWG vet, Ryzom is a perfect game to jump ship to. It'll make you swear off of SOE games forever. (Damn SOE for squandering a great franchise.)

Well Nevrax dont randomly ban people for recieving tips
I played SWG for a few months, and im glad i got Ryzom. Even after a month or two i found SWG a boring grind, lacking content, and despite spending my youth of dreaming about Yedi's i never wanna hear about one again. ever.
