Play Ryzom for free one month more

Dear Players,

It's a little news today, as you may have read in a previous news, we mentioned that the free period might be extended. Well you can enjoy it for a while longer; it's going to stay in effect at least until the end of November. This is because it's taking longer than expected to finish the very large amount of paper work required to re-establish the payment system (billing).

If you haven't done so already, or if you don't know what we're talking about and just want to try out game for free, you can download it here, and you can create a FREE Ryzom account on this page (Hurry up, no credit card required for the moment). ;)

Thank you for keeping us updated.

<private joke> the following post is dedicated to Jackoba's verbosity </>

I do have one comment, though, which I am afraid is not original and somehow expected.

It is quite possible that, after the free period, some players including yours truly will consider subscribing (or to be more optimistic, will subscribe more willingly...) if we have an idea of the development plan and general roadmap. I do hope that you have been working not only on setting up the billing system, opennel and the webpage, but also on the game itself, as you may have hinted in previous communication, even if it is simply defining a generic roadmap.

Plainly speaking (and without going now into whether there are plenty of things to do, roses to smell, the greatness of sandbox games, and how to spend hours "counting the spots in a varynx skin during sunset", etc.. that's offtopic) it is easier to wait for news while the game remains free, which, in my opinion, it is something to be grateful for, and serves the purpose of keeping the community "tight". However, since we do have now more and more concrete details, it would be great if we could also have more concrete aspects on the game itself.

Let's consider this in 2 ways:

a) Without going into the details if you cannot or do not want to provide them, Could you give some hints i.e., be more especific concerning global game aspects and scenario evolution, such as if there will be minor / major updates to the game at the same time of the new "release"? Can we expect a simultaneous patch during the new "rererelease"?

b) Otherwise, can you confirm that the game will be back to pay-to-play, "as is", with exactly the same feature set? Can you give a "stalled lower bound" i.e., time with monthly subscription in which no changes are planned / considered?

I hope that having this information around could help players make (more) informed decisions, and even the hint of a minor update could be a strong reason to attract and convince the player population segment that are in a "wait and see" state, or who may think that if game remains "as is", it may be worth suspending the subscription until when new features are added. I don't want to think that it is naive to expect some of these questions to be answered :p

My optimistic side says that it would be quite reasonable, even from the marketing point of view, to expect some candy at "release", rather than a disappointing "switch to pay mode now", despite how realistic and necessary this may be...

Yours
Ani

Not much to add to Anissa's post.

I'm trying hard to be optimistic none the less. Jewel crafting and recipes are optimism enough for me so far, so wheee.

And, ummm, any news from VL?

ani said it well, I know many people who are bordering on paying based on if the new company is planning new content in the future. Even hinting at it might push them enough to pay ;) .

I will also add to that I would love to see what the near/far future plans are here as we have to pay again. I have an account, willing to add a second and my boys both have accounts. so thats 4 accounts from my home here that i am more than happy to pay for every month, but would love to hear that i am paying for more than what i have been grinding through for the past few years. Don't get me wrong, i love the game and even though work/family keeps me from logging on as much as i'd like to right now, please give me a reason to pay for 4 accounts with my very hard earned money when you do establish a billing system. Not that i've done EVERYTHING in game, but in over 3 1/2 years i've pretty much done everything in game. So sell me the 60 bucks a month PLEASE :)

'Niss...I knew that I liked you! :)

I couldn't agree more. I do love this game and the community that evolved with it. But the community is now so small and widely dispersed (within the game), that it's difficult to even think of as a community anymore.

The content is stale and so many people are maxed out that I can't imagine many of them paying to come back and play. I'm somewhat lucky that I've never been too concerned with levelling. So I still have quite a few trees to fill out. (There's an advantage to being the Queen of Eternal DP :) . But there isn't a square inch of this planet that I haven't been in or a creature that hasn't eaten one or more body parts. So there's a definite boredom factor on the horizon :(

I'll certainly pay to come back for awhile. The challenge of helping new players and possibly rebuilding our guild will probably keep me engaged for a bit. But I really do hope to see the story and content progress.

Maybe start looking at the player scenarios for inclusion in the main game or create a template that we could fill out to send you scenario/content development suggestions. (most of the people in here have read enough of the background to write scenarios that are consistent with the storyline)

Even items like epic equipment, rewards, tools, etc. would be a relatively minor thing to code, but would help to give us all something to work for.
