Crashing, then not crashing, then crashing again

I installed Ryzom yesterday and it kept freezing and disconnecting as soon as I logged in. I manually added the Ryzom exes (client, patcher, etc) to the permitted programs list on my firewall and I was able to play without problems.
That is, until today when the problem started again. I also got this error message during a crash.
Access Violation exception generated at 0x5ED04E96, thread attempts to read at 0x44C.
The thread attempted to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.

Any ideas?
