Soft GM'ing

Recently , in guild chat , one of my 'fellow' guildies talked about his chat with a GM. Where he had asked if what he was doing was exploiting. The GM said that officially it wasn't an exploit[yet] , so he could carry on.
Now having heard what he was doing , it was , cearly , a blatant exploit.
This kind of over cautious approach to the customer base will result in exploits being the only way to compete. And a lot of people play to compete .
Its a situation thats made me give up on two previous MMORPGs , hopefully
it wont ruin this one [for me].
And GM's , I know you have to be carefull about actual bans in a limited customer base. But you are supposed to be Game Masters. Take a lesson from the long years of PnP experience of countless DM's, ref's and GM's.
Lie to the players.

Hey Kestrel... not sure how to understand that bit; sounds a bit risky in a business where customer bark loud but don't really bite, but where the barking scares the potential customers

The Code of Conduct clearly states that we have a zero tolerance policy for exploiters and cheaters in The Saga Of Ryzom.
But we don't run around screaming "OK! Who's next?!" either.
We always deal with such issues on a case-by-case basis.
In regards to that exploit you've mentioned, please report it to Nevrax using the in-game support tool. It may or may not be one, but either way let's just get it fixed.

*** Edited by Administration: Telling other users how to abuse a game bug is not permitted on these message boards and a CoC violation. I'll explain below.***

Using common sense:
- mobs can't swim; is it a bug? no don't think so, a limitation maybe.

*** Edited by Administration: Telling other users how to abuse a game bug is not permitted on these message boards and a CoC violation. I'll explain below.*** So how does Nevrax consider 'exploits' : using bugs on purpose, or does it include using game design limitations to your own advantage as well?
I would think it's an exploit and would not use it personally; what fun is there anyway? It only gets you XP; if that's all that matters in a game you could as well play
http://www.progressquest.com/ Some of my guildies started harping on about it being bannable so i thought i would ask.
If I was guild leader, I'd kick you out for using that trick on purpose; it's just cheap, as for Nevrax kicking you out of the game... it's their problem, they should first make sure that the problem is fixed, and keep your name and monitor if you're still using other bugs, then a warning could be sent, then an other, then a ban... banning right away is bad policy, fixing and warning on repeated abuses of the system is better

good job you're not then
I put what i did in the same league as swimming so mobs can't hit you.... just my opinion but....I have never exploited in a game for money or xp before and until this is officially classed as an exploit, and because the gm confirmed it isn't i feel no guilt using it

Note, when swimming you can't fight mobs either... so you don't get XP.

why does that make you think it is not an exploit? You use the terrain to your advantage to survive attacks from higher level mobs... as did I.
I should point out however that I have used this island only twice and gained a total of 3 levels from it from 48-51. I do not intend to use it all the time because it is boring. I have however spotted other people doing the same thing at other places. These people even said negative comments to me doing the same thing!

When did I say it wasn't? I only said you gained no XP with swimming away; not that it was normal to be able to escape to a 100% safe place

My personal opinion is that its an exploit, XP at zero risk! It is also very similar to an exploit that was found and thankfully removed in the FBT.
Now that its been publish here and not removed by the admins, means that its on the boarder line. It does however mean that EVERYONE (who cares only about XP and not how it is gained) will now be doing it. Luckly the XP reward system will mean that it will only have a limited life span ... these mobs will eventually give you next to no XP.
I personally would like to see the return of fighting in water, for both players and mobs, which was possible in OB1.
I would have thought the 'devs' would have re positioned the Mobs, as I have heard they did to the cloppers in dew drops. Thus removing the oppertunity.
The speed at which characters are reaching the high 100-150 makes me think that all the effort put into make a skill tree take 3-6 months to complete was wasted. I less than one month we have very high characters and I know of a number of people who plan to have hit the 250 in one branch in the next few weeks.
These are only my personal views.
