Hey all.

I started playing Ryzom a few days ago and I must really say that I am enjoying myself a lot. I decided to summarize all my first impressions in a blog post over at our gaming mag's international blog, thought that you guys might be interested in reading it.

Remember, I am a complete noob so be nice if I've managed to get anything completely wrong. I will continue to blog about Ryzom as often as I can, I would really love this game to get the attention it deserves.

Maybe this helps a bit :)

A bit outdated in some respects but still OK to read I guess ;)

Edit: Very nice and fair review :) Thanks!

Be sure to read some the beginner information linked from here.

The post is old, and some of the links are no longer good, but it's still a good starting point.

I think the time may have come to gather a new list of available information.

That's a nice fair review, but I'm not sure it gives the right impression on why Ryzom is so special as opposed to other games. I guess what I'm saying is that it's a very technical review but doesn't mention what's really amazing about the game, it's interaction with other people.

In all my 4 years of mmo gaming (I know it's not that much ;) ) this is the first game where I am wholly at home in an entirely new world and place, where people say hi, ask questions and get intelligent responses, even if it's to say read the tutorial ^^. People joke around, help each other at every turn, it's a very pleasant atmosphere that I've yet to encounter in other games. Usually you have to be in a nice guild to get this treatment, but here it seems to be game wide. And with that I have to say I am totally charmed, it might seem like a big chat room to some people, but to me that's all an MMO is anyway. I'm a big soloer or prefer small groups, and I'm tired of missing out because I lack a certain level or piece of gear or mission I haven't done yet. The appeal to me so far is the freedom of choice and that my actions are really my own.

Oops I went on a bit of rant there, sorry lol. But anyway enjoyed the review and hope there's more to come.

eshay - I'll get there. As I've said, I've only played for a few hours spread out during several days. I will be sure to mention stuff like that in the future, right now I needed to get a bit technical to explain to people who have never seen the game before how the basics (as far as I understand them) work. :)

Thanks for the nice words, everyone!

I read your review of Ryzom and for only 5 hours of playing time id say youre Hooked! You made some very good points in it , nice to see it getting such attention .
Silan is a bit un-polished yet and the ML is different ,once you are able to explore and enjoy the beauty that exists there you wont want to log off :)

The community is the best around of any MMO in my opinion and im glad you got a taste of it and Eshay as well (nice rant BTW) . Enjoy Atys and all of its wonders and beauty :)
